Requirements: Level 10 Herblaw Level 25 Thieving and Level 10 Agility
Items Needed:
1. Boots
2. Gloves
3. Two or three ropes
4. Cup of tea
5. opal
6. Vial
7. Tinderbox
8. Panning tray (obtained during quest)
9. Charcoal
10. and Pestle and mortar
To start the digsite quest, go south-east from the Varrock east entrance. Go through the gate in order to get to the
digsite area. Travel east into a room with dark-red carpeting.
Inside the room, there are about 5 examiners. Talk to one of the examiners to begin the quest. She will tell you that she
gives the earth science exams. Ask her if you can take the earth science exams. She will say that you need to get a letter
stamped by the Curator in Varrock. In order to do this, you need to go to the Varrock museum and use the "unstamped letter of
recommendation" with the Varrock Curator. He will then stamp the "unstamped letter of recommendation", which results in the
letter becoming "stamped letter of recommendation".
Now comes the fun part. In order to obtain the answers to the test you must take you must go around to each of the three
students who are down in the site. You will find them complaining about how they lost their rock samples; so it is your job
to find the rock sample! NOTE: If you choose to take the earth science exam without first dealing with the students, you will automatically fail the
exam until you find their rocks for them.
Talk to each of the three students. There are two males and one female. One male student is wearing a green shirt and yellow
pants, and the other male student has an orange shirt and black pants. The female student is wearing a pink shirt and black
skirt. They will each tell you that they have lost their rock samples and that they will help you with your exam if you find
them and return the rocks to their owners.
She will ask you a series of questions, but no matter how correct you answer, you will never get it right as you need to get information from the dig site.
In order to get the females rock sample, you need to go around the brick wall to the west and search the bush in between
those two giant urns. There you will find a rock sample belonging to the female student.
-First rock: Talk to the student in the red shirt. He will say that she lost her rock sample when walking along a stream. Go to east of the site (along the river) and you will see the Guide. He teaches you to pan for gold in the river. There’s a small house just south of him. There, you will see that there is a bucket and a pan tray. Take the pan tray and use it on the panning spot in the river. The guide will then stop you. He needs a cup of tea.
To find the rock sample belonging to the male student in the green shirt and yellow pants, you must pickpocket the workmen
until you obtain the rock sample from one of them.
In order to get the third and final rock sample, you must pan in the river. There are guides all around the panning points.
Go into the large tent to the west, and pick up a free pan to pan in the river. The guide will stop you from panning unless you
bring him a "cup of tea". In order to give him the "cup of tea", use the "cup of tea" with the "guide" he will now allow you
to use the panning points. Go to a panning point and use the panning tray with the panning point. Next, "search" the panning
tray and you can find many different items. These include gold pieces, gems, and our beloved rock sample.
Go back to each of the students and talk to them. They will give you the answers to the first exam. You will now be able to
take the first earth sciences exam. After you have memorized the three answers, go back to the examiner and ask to take the
test. NOTE: Take a piece of paper and a pen and write down the answers. Trust me, your "Quest History" will be cleared of what the
students have said by the time you begin to take the first test.
After you have passed the test, go back and once again talk to each student. They will give you three different answers.
(Again, write them down.) Talk to the examiner and take the test again. After you have passed the test, go back to those
students for the third and final time. The two male students will give you the answers right away, but the female student
wants more than just her rock sample. She now wants a gem. Opals are her favorite, but any gem will do. You can either
scrounge around in your bank, or pan for gems at the panning points. After you have the cut opal, jade, or red topaz, go back
and talk to the female student. She will now be satisfied and give you the answers for the test.
Go back to the examiner and you will take the test again. After you have passed the third and final test, you will be able to
dig anywhere on the site; given you have what is required. For example, in order to dig in one part of the site you need to
be wearing boots. In another part, you need a specimen brush. (Steal from workman). NOTE: There are cupboards you must search. The closed one holds a rock pick you need.
Congratulations! You have officially passed all three tests! Immediately after you have passed the first test, you will have
been given a trowel. Use the trowel with one of the barrels that has a big red X on it. There are three barrels. Each contain
the same nitroglycerin. Use you trowel with one of the barrels to open it. After you have opened the barrel, use your empty
vial with the barrel. You will now have an "unidentified liquid". Go to the archaeological expert who is in the room next to
the examiner (with the scary bear), and use the unidentified liquid with the expert. He will tell you that is "Nitroglycerin"
There is a bookcase near the examiner's room you need to search. Take the book from the bookcase and in the order that the
book tells you to, mix the ingredients. The exact order that it should be in is:
1 measure of ammonium nitrate powder
1 measure of nitroglycerin
1 measure of ground charcoal (use pestle and mortar with charcoal)
1 "unknown" ingredient. (The book says it is some sort of
root)
The first ingredient is ammonium nitrate powder. In order to get this explosive powder, you must use your level 3 archaeology
skills in a level 3 digsite. To dig in a level 3 site, you must pickpocket a specimen brush from any one of the workmen
walking around the digsite area. After you have obtained the specimen brush, go to the nearest level 3 dig site area and use
your trowel with the soil. Keep digging until you come across an "Amulet of Zaros".
Use this amulet with the archaeological expert. He sounds very excited. He will be very impressed and give you a letter. Use
this letter with one of the many workmen, and now you can go down the private dig shaft (northern-most winch). Use one of
your ropes with this winch and then operate it. This is where you get the key to the locked chest in the tent. There will be
two workmen walking around down there. Talk to either one and he will ask you what you are doing there. Say "I have been
invited to do some research here". Next, you must ask, "Do you know where to find a chest key?" And then "I don’t suppose I
could use it?" From there on out, just keep begging by saying please (its always the first option). He will finally give in.
Go back up, and find your way to the chest that lays under the tent (directly south). Use the key with the chest and then
search it. You have just obtained unidentified powder.
Go back to the archeological expert and use the unidentified powder with him. He will tell you that it is ammonium nitrate
powder. You have already obtained the nitroglycerin from the barrels. NOTE: DO NOT DROP ANY OF THE EXPLOSIVE INGREDIENTS! They will explode and cause major damage.
In order get Ground Charcoal, you must use pestle and mortar with charcoal To get the charcoal, you can either grab it out of
the specimen tray, or you can use coal with fire. You may also buy it on Karamja from the jungle store. If you are either too
lazy to go to your bank and withdraw coal, then just go to the northern-most sacks and search them until you find a specimen
jar. After you obtain a specimen jar, search the specimen tray until you find charcoal (you will find a lot of junk in the
process). If you have a pestle and mortar with you, then use the charcoal with the pestle and mortar. You now have ground
charcoal!
In order to get the Arcenia root, you must go down the western-most winch and travel to the north-east corner. There you will
find the Arcenia root. After you have all of the ingredients, mix as follows:
1. Use the ammonium nitrate powder with the Nitroglycerin.
2. Use the ground charcoal with the vial.
3. Use the Arcenia root with the vial.
Voila! An explosive compound!
Go back to the western-most winch. Operate the winch. If the bucket does not reach the ground, use rope with winch and
operate it. Use the explosive compound on the bricks and then use your tinderbox with the bricks. You will find yourself in a
room very much like the one you were just in, but you will be allowed passage into the room beyond. There are level 24
skeletons there, and you may have to fight them off if they're blocking your way. Take the stone tablet that you see lying in
the center of the room. Bring it back to the archaeological expert and use it with him.
Give it to the girl and she'll say thank you. Get the answers from her and go back and take the third examination.
He will ramble on about how amazing the discovery is.
CONGRATULATIONS! You have just completed the digsite quest!
Reward: Two quest points, about 15k mining experience, and about 5k herblaw experience.
