Underground Passage Quest

By Evil Dragun, contribution by Kicker774

Mininmum Requirements: Must have completed Plague city and Biohazard quests, approximately level 32 agility, (level 50 thieving is very nice to have, but is not required) Able to beat two level 78 demons, one level 98 demon, and a level 78 spider (level 37 Prayer helps with the demons) And level 25 ranged.

Starts: King Lathas in Ardougne

What you need:
-Food (Lots! Bass rather than Lobbies, Sharks rather than Bass.)
-Armor
-Bow of some sort
-Few arrows (5 approximately)
-Pick axe
-Rope

(You can buy these items from a man named Chadwell, southwest of the cave entrance.)

Start by talking to King Lathas in Ardougne. He will tell you that he is tracking down the evil King Tyras. In order to do that, you must find a way through the underground pass, so that King Lathas can send his troops through to the frontierlands of west Runescape. When he is done talking he will let you know that his tracker, Koftik, is waiting for you in west Ardougne, go and talk to him. (No need for a gas mask.)

Once you are through talking to Koftik, enter the cave. (This is a huge underground area, and there is a map.) Now there are two options of getting to the bridge beyond the swamp. One way is to try to clear the swamp, but this is not recommended. The other is to go to the right and climb over the rocks and ledges until you reach the bridge. Once you arrive there, you will see Koftik got there ahead of you. Talk to him again. He will tell you about a journal entry he found. Ask him to let you read it. He will then give you a "damp cloth". "Use" the "damp cloth" on one of your arrows. Once you do that, use it in the fire to light it and you now have a "lit arrow". Go to the right and climb up the rocks and ledges untill you get to the top of the cliff. Now you shoot the arrow at the bridge and if you hit it, you will be able to cross.

If you happened to forget a pick axe, at this point you can attempt to go to the right and cross the swamp but you might not have high enough agility. If you have a pick axe, go to the left and mine the rocks. You will receive some "rocks". "Use" them on the swamp nearest to you to get across.

As you go a little farther along, you will come to some spikes sticking out of the ground. Do not attempt to jump over them. Instead, use your rope on the stalactite hanging from the ceiling of the cavern and you will safely cross over.

You will enter a small passage that leads to an area where the floors are grills- one wrong move and you fall into the pointy spikes below. To get across this obstacle you must start on the second grill from the right. Go forward one grill then to the left. Now go forward one grill, forward again one grill, and then left one grill. Now for your last move, you must go diagonally across the grills towards the lever. Once you reach the lever pull it and the cage will open.

As you walk towards the next small passage you will come to some rocks that you must get across. Search the rocks for traps and go by them. Once you get by the rocks you should be in an area with a furnace to the left and a ledge to the right with level 24 zombies all around, keep going straight past these until you reach some more rocks to search for traps on.

Now that you are past the rocks you should be in an area with a well in front of you and an Altar of Zamorak to the left. Next to the well is a book that tells you about the orbs, there are 4 passages that lead you to them.

1st Passage: Is the one farthest south. For this one you have to able to take a hit of 10 or higher, because you have to fall into a pit of spikes. At the bottom you can just pick up the orb and climb out.

2nd Passage: You need to get by 6 spikes, when/if they hit you you have to go all the way back and do it again. Once you reach the end, grab the orb and as you come back don't forget to search the rocks again.

3rd Passage: The orb is being guarded by level 58 Ogres, fend them off and grab it.

4th Passage: Grab two of the planks that respawn (If you only grab one plank you will be injured), then use them on the passage floor, and safely grab the orb on the other side.

You should now have all 4 of the orbs, take them back to the area with the furnace and level 24 zombies in it. Once you get there place the orbs into the furnace and burn them. Once you do so, go back to the well and drop down it.
Now that you have dropped down the well you should see Koftik again, right in front of you, next to a crate. Talk to Koftik and he will let you know how he's doing, and will give you some food. (2 Meat pies and 2 salmon)

As you go farther on, you will come to a jail area with slaves in the bars. Pick lock the first cell railing on the right to get through it. Now search the dug up soil and climb through it. You should end up in a small passage way leading to a wall grill. Use your rope on the grill and you will safely cross to the other side.

As you walk a little farther, you will come to two separate ways to go. If you are level 50 thieving keep going south and pick lock the bars and go through. You will come along obstacles as you continue through that way.

If you are not level 50 thieving, you must go east and climb over the rocks on the up-raised cliff. If you happen to fall you are going to be hit pretty hard with the spikes below. Just keep going along the up-raised cliff, but do not go off the cliff. There is a way to get to the level 50 thieving way, but stay away from it, you'll be wasting your time. This part is going to take time so don't get to frustrated if you keep falling when you get really close to the end. All it means is that you will probably make it the next time you attempt it.

As soon as you make it past that HUGE obstacle you will be in an area with level 32 bats. Go toward the passage way to the right and go down it until you reach an area with a unicorn in a cage surrounded by skeletons and armed skeletons. Search the bars of the cage and you find a cage piece. Now go back al ittle and climb up the ledge to the right where you will end up in a long passage leading up to a boulder. Use the cage piece on the boulder and it will fall down onto the unicorn cage. Go back down to where the unicorn was and search the boulder, you will find a unicorn horn. It is important that you hang on to this, or you will have to come back for it.

Go on ahead and climb up the ledge beyond the cage and you will come across Koftik again, talk to him. Then go towards the zombies inside of the cage, picklock the cage and go through, there are level 62 Undead One's in with all the other zombies. Just run through, although you will probably be attacked by a Undead One, picklock the cage on the other side, and head down the passage.

You will now come upon some Paladin's, don't attack them. Talk to the paladin with the beard and he will give you some food. Now head westward where there are some rocks that you must search to get by or be injured. Once past them, you will come to a large pot in the middle of the area. Search the pot and read what it says. This writing means that you need to get 3 coats of arms, and a unicorn horn to place in the pot. Go back and attack the paladin's until you get 3 coats of arms, and then return to place them in the pot.

Now that you have placed the coats of arms and unicorn horn in the pot, you can go through the doors ahead of you.

Now that you are through the doors, go down the stairs ahead of you to the right. You will be injured and surrounded by level 24 Souless Beings. When you go down there, be sure to have enough health. You will see Koftik once again, talk to him and he will tell you that the dwarves have gone south. Go as far southwest as you can and you will come upon a small dwarf camp, talk to the dwarf named Niloof, and then the other two. You should receive a tinderbox from the others. When you're finished talking to them go east, you will find a ladder, go up it.

You are on a huge maze of bridges, go northeast from where you are now, by Kardia the witch. If you try to open the door she will attack you with a spell, hitting you pretty hard. What you need to do is find her cat and set it front of the door. The cat is located a distance away, in the northwest direction. As soon as you find it go back to Kardia the witch, and knock on the door. Then go around to the side where the bars are and look through them. You will see Kardia the witch playing with her cat. Now go open the door and search the chest inside, and find a doll, 2 potions (Random), and Kardia's journal.

Read through the journal and you will find out that you need to get the four essential elements, flesh, blood, conscience, and Iban's shadow.

For the flesh go back down to the dwarves and talk to Niloof, Klank, and Kamen. Each of them should give you information, and Niloof will give you gauntlets. Once you have these items go east as far as you can. You should come upon a casket near that area, this is Iban's tomb. Use the tinderbox on it and it will become a fire, once the fire burns out you will receive the ashes from it. Use the ashes on the doll. If you find you cannot get the casket to light, think of something highly flammable that you've recently encountered.

For the blood go north from the casket, and a valley blocked by a fence will come into sight. Search through the bars. As you go farther in you will be surrounded by level 2 spiders, and level 35 Blessed spiders- go and attack Kalrag (he is a huge spider level 78).

For the conscience, you need to go northwest from the valley of spiders and you will see a small fenced area. Follow its path to a pile of mud, and climb up it. At the top of the pile of mud you will be back by the doors that lead to the pot in which you threw the coats of arms and unicorn horn. Instead of going back through the doors, go northwest and head on to the bridges again. Head west on the bridges, make sure you are wearing your gauntlets and start searching the cages with the souless' in them until you find the remains of a dove. Once you find it, use it on the doll.

Now comes the hard part, time to kill the demons. Go back to the ladder east of the dwarves and up again. Head southeast from where you enter the upper level. And now its time for a leap of faith. The only way to get by the demons is just to leap across the bridge gap. When you reach and defeat all the demons they will drop an amulet, you can already see a chest southeast of the black one. Go open the chest and you will get a dark liquid. Use the liquid on the doll, now you are finished with the four elements of the doll.

Now go back to where you got the remains of the dove but instead of going west, head south. Keep going until reach Iban's temple. To enter you will need to put on a Robe of Zamorak, You will see Iban and he will start attacking you with some sort of spell that shoots out of the floor- you will have to run and heal. But once in front of the Pit of the Damned, throw the doll into it, Congratulations you have now completed the Underground Pass quest!!!

Rewards: 5 Quest points, 15 death runes, 30 fire runes, Staff of Iban, Able to use level 50 magic spell (Iban blast level 25 missile attack!)and agility exp.
