Prayer...the way of comunicating with the Gods of RuneScape, whether they be evil or good. The best, and only constant way to raise your prayer level is to bury bones. There are only four types of bones, and two of them are members-only items. These bones can be obtained by killing certain types of monsters, or by finding them.

Bones

bones - 3.75xp - obtained by killing most human and smaller sized monsters
bat bones - 5xp - obtained by killing bats (M)
big bones - 12.5xp - obtained by killing giants, baby blue dragons, ogres and any other monsters around their size (excluding demons)
dragon bones - 60xp - these are obtained by killing dragons! (M)

There is one other small way to raise your prayer level: quests! there are two quests that provide you with prayer experience...The Restless Ghost, and The Holy Grail (M) quests. You can also gain experience from the Legends Quest, should you decide to choose prayer as your reward experience skill. After you have completed these, it's back to burying bones for that prayer experience.

After you reach level 31 prayer, you gain access to the monks guild. (SEE BELOW) In there you can get monks robes which give you 12 prayer in the equipment section (this slows the drain rate of your prayer down). Also, Brother Jerrod will bless holy symbols for you which will give you an extra 8 prayer (these are made buy using a silver bar on a furnace--you must have a holy symbol mould in you inventory. Then add string. You need a crafting level of 16 or higher to make these).

Level Prayer Name Effect Drain Rate
1 Thick Skin Increases defense by 5% 15
4 Burst of Strength Increases Strength by 5% 15
7 Clarity of Thought Increases Attack by 5% 15
10 Rock Skin Increases Defense by 10% 30
13 Superhuman Strength Increases Strength by 10% 30
16 Improved Reflexes Increases Attack by 10% 30
19 Rapid Restore 2x restore for all stats except hitpoints 5
22 Rapid Heal 2x restore rate for Hitpoints 10
25 Protect Items Keep one extra item if you die 10
28 Steel Skin Increases your Defense by 15% 60
31 Ultimate Strength Increases Strength by 15% 60
34 Incredible Reflexes Increase Attack by 15% 60
37 Paralyze Monster Stops your opponent (not players) from fighting you 60
40 Protect from Missiles 100% protection from ranged attack 60

If you use a prayer for too long, you run out of prayer points and you will have to either recharge them at an alter, or in members you can use a prayer potion (made at level 38 herblaw from ranarr weed and snape grass). This restores a third of your total prayer points, and they sell for as high as 3k or 4k.

The prayers are color-coded. Those written in white can be used, but those in black may not. Those in black mean your prayer level is not high enough to use them. Each of the prayers can be turned on or off individually by left-clicking on the prayer in the prayer list.

Prayer Guild (Upstairs in Monastery)

Requirements: Level 32 Prayer
Location: Monastery northwest of Barbarian Village

The Prayer Guild is located on the top floor of Abbot Langley’s Monastery, A large square building with a courtyard which is located in between the Dwarven Mine Entrance and Barbarian Village, and slightly to the north of both of these places. The Guild is for people who have a Prayer level of 31 or over, and you do not need to be wearing anything to enter. However, the first time you try to join with 31 Prayer, you must have full prayer points, otherwise the abbot will declare you not pious enough and will not let you go up the ladder.

Prayer GuildThere are several monks downstairs, and if you talk to them and ask to be healed they will heal 7 of your hit points. You may talk to them repeatedly until you are completely healed. Another altar is downstairs in the Monastery Chapel and in another area of the building there are some beds. Outside are three fountains, and a small field with cabbages in it. Three sheep can be found to the north. Baah.

Anyway, when you're up there, you won't find much. There will be plenty of monks of course, just like downstairs. If you go to one corner of that floor, you'll find monks robes respawning, so if you change your character into a bald white man, you can be just like the monks!

Right next to this spot is the special 'monks altar'. This gives you two bonus prayer points, (34/32) which should be much appreciated when you're using 'paralyze monster'. The points aren't permanent--once you use your prayer some, they will go away until you recharge there again. Last of all (in members) is one of the tiny scorpions running around that you need to catch for the Scorpian Catcher quest.

Not much is in there, but the place is a bonus for all you impures out there. If you want to bury enough bones to get in, I suggest going to world 8 Lumbridge. There'll be enough bones from duelers and stakers. You can also visit the big bone respawn in the wilderness, which is near the black unicorns.
