These rules apply to all people who use RuneVillage (villagers). Absolutely no one (including staff members, users who have donated money, items, or other help to RuneVillage) is immune to these rules. The administration reserves the right to alter this list without prior warning or announcement.

Rules

I. The following rules warrant 1 step up on the step ladder for every violation.

1. Do not use offensive language or bypass the filter.
2. Flaming and Racial/Sexual comments: When posting, please be mindful of the way you interact with people and treat them with respect. Sexual or degrading comments, racial slurs, and flaming/flame baiting will not be tolerated.
3. Do not spam (one word responses, double posting, only posting a quote by someone else, posting the same topic more than once, etc.)
4. Leave the moderating to the moderators. If you witness another user break a rule, please send a private message to a moderator containing a link to the offending post or topic.
5. Do not steal or plagarize another user's art, work, or personal creation.
6. Editing post and profile content: If an admin or moderator edits your post or profile information, do not revert it back to what it was originally. Do not refuse to change your profile when an admin or moderator asks you to.
7. Trolling: Do not troll the boards. Trolling is defined as "making controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion." Trolling makes the forums and chat unpleasant for everyone and will not be tolerated.
8. Borderline behavior: Do not tread the line on any of the rules at any time. Repeatedly and deliberately coming close to breaking a rule but stopping just short of it will be considered the same as trolling and will be punished as such.

II. The following rules each warrant a permanent ban from the RuneVillage Forums and RuneVillage Chat.

1. Do not post or spread inappropriate images or harmful files. This includes obscene/pornographic/offensive images or links to web pages which contain such images and keyloggers, viruses or other harmful material.
2. Do not attempt to hack or scam anyone in any way.
3. Do not join RuneVillage for the sole reason of advertising another site or company (Clan Recruitment posts are exempt from this rule.)

III. Blatant infractions of RuneScape rules are punishable on RuneVillage, including but not limited to: Account Trading/Selling, Macroing, and using or advertising Private Servers. Such offenses will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may result in anywhere from 1 step up on the step ladder to a permanent ban from RuneVillage.

The administration and moderators reserve the right to punish users who are disruptive to RuneVillage in any way, shape, or form that is not listed in the above rules.

Step System

Replacing warnings are new steps of punishment that accumulate and require time to dwindle away, much like warnings.

Step 1. Verbal warning.
Step 2. Verbal warning and loss of avatar and signature rights.
Step 3. Two day ban.
Step 4. One week ban and removal of any special rank.
Step 5. One month ban.
Step 6. Indefinite ban or lengthy ban depending on severity, to be discussed at mod review board.

Upon reaching Step 1 or 2, users holding a special rank may be stripped of it following a discussion between the Moderating team and the Administration. Factors such as the user's current offense as well as his/her offense history will be taken into account in this matter. Upon reaching Step 3, however, users still holding a special rank will lose it, no discussion required.

To remove steps, it takes a certain time of good (not acceptable, but good) behavior, and you will go down a step. As you reach higher steps, the time it takes to go down increases. Generally...

• Steps 1 and 2: 1 month to step down
• Steps 3 and 4: 2 months to step down
• Steps 5 and 6: 3 months to step down

Profile Use

These rules apply exclusively to your signature and avatar in your Profile field. If your profile is over the limits a moderator will ask you to remove it or help you edit the file to make it in the limits. If you refuse to change it an administrator will be notified and will change it. If you change it back, your signature and/or avatar will be disabled.

• Signature size limits: 500 pixels wide and 150 pixels high.
• Avatar size limits: 80 pixels wide and 80 pixels high.
• File size limit: All images found in Avatar and Signature field combined - 55kB. (56,320 bytes)

Additionally, you may have a maximum of 8 lines of text in your signature. If you have an image in your signature, you may have 8 lines of text if you are using a font size of 70 or less. Otherwise you may only have 4 lines of text with an image.

Name Changes

If you wish to have your name changed, you may request so from an admin via a private message. In your private message, you must give your desired name and the reason you wish to have your name changed. (If it is later discovered that you were untruthful about your reason(s), your name will be reverted and you will be issued 3 warnings.) You may not request to have your name changed to anything that is: similar to another RuneVillager's name; similar to a well-known RuneScaper's name; more than 16 characters long. Do not request to have your name changed with intent to have it changed back at a later date. Name changes are limited to one per every 3 months, excluding reverts. The administration reserves the right to refuse to change anyone's name for any reason not present here.
