RVET #21: Fight Pits

This past Sunday, 15 RuneVillagers, 2 Jagex Moderators, and several other bystanders lit up Karamja Volcano with a trip to the TzHaar Fight Pits! The whips snapped, greataxes flew, and arrows whizzed as we played battle after battle for just over an hour. It was a ton of fun, and I'd like to thank everyone that attended! You can read the topic and see the pictures by clicking here.

RVET #22 is scheduled for July. Be sure to check the Global Announcements in The Pub in the coming weeks to join in on what's going to be a competition for all RuneScape players!

See you then!

23 May - Interview With Jagex

JAGeX has held special e-mail interviews with a few websites and we were lucky enough to be a part of that. While we, the staff, realize we were a little late on getting OUR interview up, it was only because we were spending our time on it to make sure that things turned out the best they could. In fact it was Mod Mark, the Lead Designer over at JAGeX that personally answered all of our questions! Needless to say we are very proud of the turnout and hope for their continued support.

The interview can be found on our forum , as well as any discussion of the interview.

21 April - Tale of the Muspah

Quoted directly from RuneScape.com:

For the Fremennik, the path to adulthood is not an easy one. To successfully complete their Trials, each Fremennik must display strength, courage, and ingenuity. Unfortunately, that's a bit of a tall order for young Erjolf... which is where you come in.

22 March - Image hotlinking has been disabled now

Seeing the many requests that our server seems to get for images of our guides for other websites (who basically stole our guides), we've implemented a system that prevents this hotlinking from other sites.

Only images requested at runevillage.com will be transmitted from our server.

Normally speaking this should hardly affect your browsing on our website, but it might affect some other sites that (without authorisation) use our images on their site.

If you ever stumble upon the image below where it shouldn't be displayed, please contact me as quickly as possible (preferably through PM):

The image that gets displayed to prevent hotlinking from other sites

Beware of Unfortunate RuneScape Glitch (UPDATE: Fixed)

A dangerous RuneScape bug has been found and is being exploited within the game, which involves the usage of a particular symbol causing players' browsers to crash, and not be able to log back in. Jagex is aware of this serious problem and are taking steps toward fixing it. In the mean time, to avoid the crashing and other symptoms, it's advised you play with all chat options "off", or use a Quick Chat world. Keep safe!

More information can be found here.

Update: Due to the severity of this issue, Jagex has temporarily shut down Bounty Hunter, Clan Wars, Staked Duels and Duel Tournaments. Please be careful, and again, it's strongly advised you turn off all chat options (or use a Quick Chat world) until this issue is dealt with. We will announce when it is fixed. See the above topic for updates.

Update: This bug has been fixed completely by Jagex.

A Big Month for RuneVillage

Hey everyone,

As you may or may not know, the past thirty days have been quite significant for RuneVillage - some very important, and very positive updates have taken place. We're sure you'll enjoy them, and if you're not already a member, we suggest you join our forums to become a part of all the festivities. Joining is free and very simple, just click here!

Some of the changes that have taken place are detailed below:

  • A Wide Array of New Smileys

Say hello to a brand new group of smiling figures. But be weary, they're not new members (though, we have had an onslaught of those too!), they're new smileys! From showing absolute astonishment, to giggling strangely, this batch will show the emotion of your post extraordinarily. We have RuneVillage's own brilliant artists to thank for this.

  • New Forum Rules - A Better Forum Experience

The RuneVillage Staff has released a brand new set of rules for the forum. As Applequest, our jolly Assistant Site Administrator said, "This is more of a change in how we use the rules, more than a change in the rules themselves." so fear not, printing off the page and studying profusely isn't required. As always, our rules are more or less normal and common sense, but just in case, we highly suggest that everyone takes a look at our new rules, they're clearer, and more general, and will solve some of the problems the forums have faced. The new rules can be found here.

  • Custom Titles - They're Back!

For our older members, many will remember our famous custom titles. These were found below your name, and add a catchy phrase about yourself, or comedic, that can add some personality to your post. Unfortunately, when we upgraded the forums, they were lost, forever falling into the abyss. But the ever-brilliant Glodenox has added them back - rejoice! Rejoice! The only requirement is having a year or older account on RuneVillage.

  • New Forum BBCode

BBCode adds simplicity and fun to a post. With this update, you can link to a Wikipedia article, simply by using the [wiki] tags, and adding the article's name in, instead of retrieving the URL and the whole shabam. To name another, simply type your RuneScape name within the [stats] tags to broadcast your account's heroic stats to the whole world. We hope this addition will greatly simplify and "funnify" your posts - for more BBCode, see the link above.

  • New Guardians of the Chat Room

Unleash the new Moderators! Without crawling into a Pokemon cliche, RuneVillage is pleasured to announce the promotion of four incredible new Chat Moderators - Burks, Eadwulf, Garth and Stalesoul! We're sure they will do our Chat Room proud! Oh, don't forget to check out Jaron's incredible Flash animation, paying tribute to the new group.

  • ... and Many More Small Updates!

In addition to the above, RuneVillage has undergone many small, but significant updates. See the link above for more details!

  • The Future of RuneScape, and a New Head of RuneScape!

Yes, yes, I know I said this would be RuneVillage changes only, but we, RuneVillage feel obliged to welcome Mark Gerhard upon his throne as the new CEO of Jagex (the creators of RuneScape)! We're very excited to see what this youthful, enthusiastic new CEO will bring to the plate - and we're certain it will be a lot. The changes he promises to bring are very ... promising also. Welcome Mark!!

Summer's End Quest Guide (Temporary)

Unfortunately, with school just starting, our usually speedy elves aren't able to pump out, edit, code then upload RuneScape's newest content as fast as they could during the sweltering summer season. They're busy hovering over their physics text books, chemistry flasks, and for some of them; spelling tests. Once the new school year settles in, we'll be sure to 'up our game' up and beyond our normally terrific speed.

But, for the moment being, we can only release a temporary quest guide, which can be found over here. A big thanks to Elf Euph for slugging his sword and shield over his shoulder and combatting this fearsome Spirit Beast (and ultimately completing the quest guide)!

Keep your eyes peeled for the full guide, which is estimated to be released tomorrow. Enjoy the quest and the fantastic story-line in the meantime!

Diversions and Distractions Guide

RuneVillage Runescape Help's image of Balthazar the Ringmaster.

Hey everyone! As you know, Jagex has recently brought out quite an interesting update to RuneScape, which may offer an interesting alternative to your everyday, run of the mill training. Instead of doing a million laps around that Agility course, you could be performing backflips in front of a cheering audience. Instead of lugging your pickaxe over your shoulder and hammering granite, you could be exploring and discovering alien meteors to receive experience. The list goes on, and the requirements allow practically anyone to participate!

As you know (well, we hope you do!) we strive to bring out the highest quality guides, and as quick as possible. With much help from the community and fellow penguin pillaging partakers, we've compiled guides to ALL of these interesting events. Check out the Distractions and Diversions sections of our Special Reports section. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Happy scaping!

September 2 - Distractions and Diversions

Lets All Go To The Circus!

Quoted directly from RuneScape.com:

While you're training skills, you can often do with a distraction. This week brings not one, not two, but three of them, each offering something wildly different. Prepare for penguin spies, big tops and star sprites...

~Gamestar

September 1 - Behind the Scenes September

September is the month of penguin dominance!

Quoted directly from RuneScape.com:

If you threw a party in September you'd get some curious guests: acrobats back-flipping over penguins, Calladin dancing with star sprites, and Arrav arm-wrestling a massive spirit beast. Beat that, Party Pete!

A big thanks to Jimmybe, Morte and ~Paws~ in helping us to release this quest guide so quickly. Bravo guys! This newly released quest is indeed a short one, but quite a humurous, and interesting one nonetheless.
