Back to my Roots Quest

By: Freeasacar and Glodenox

Edited By: The123king

Coded By: Gamestar

Required Quests: Required Levels:
  • Level 55 Agility
  • Level 53 Farming
  • Level 59 Slayer
  • Level 72 Woodcutting
  • Must be able to defeat a level 167 foe.

Where to start: Speak to Horacio outside Lord Handelmort's Mansion (the one with the guard dogs), in East Ardougne.

Required items: Airtight Pot (Pot Lid + Pot - make the Pot Lid when required during the quest, not in advance), Plant pot full of earth (use a normal plant pot on a weeded Farming Patch with a Trowel in your inventory), Secateurs, Spade, Rake, Seed Dibber, Woodcutting Axe, Machete.

  • Talk to Horacio, ask him who he is and ask if he needs any help. He will explain that he hopes to make Lord Handelmort happier again by adding two vines to his garden. The vines are difficult to transport, but Wizard Cromperty seems to have discovered some preservation magics.

  • Go talk to Wizard Cromperty in his blue-floored House in Northwest Ardougne. It appears the RPDT Office has to send a specialist part for the invention. Cromperty asks you to go figure out what is going on there.

  • Go to the RPDT Office (just South of the Southern Bank and West of the Ardougne Docks) and speak to one of the Employees. The cause of the delay seems to be a smelly package of which the RPDT employees can no longer read the label. The RPDT policy disallows them to open up the package, but as you are not an employee, you can do so for them.

  • Open the package and you'll receive the Hand of a wizard. Now the RPDT employees can work again.

  • Go back to Wizard Cromperty with the hand. He will say his device arrived and that the pot lid got broken. You will need to make a pot lid after you have spoken to him. Using a ready-made pot lid with him will not work.

  • Now head to Karamja and talk to Garth the farmer, he's right next to the Fruit Tree patch in Brimhaven. He will explain that you can only use the main section of the vine as he had no success with the roots of smaller sections.

  • Head to Shilo Village with Anti-poison Potions, Food and melee armour then prepare to tackle the maze. Head across the river by the west of Shilo Village and then follow the southern border of Shilo Village to find the Maze. Enter the maze by climbing up the vine that sticks out.

  • Once you have entered, make use of the various holes in the roots or holes in the ground to get around quickly. Keep going through nearby holes until you arrive at the location on the image below (taken with screen facing north). If you appear to be going in a loop, make sure you didn't overlook another hole anywhere...

  • Cut through the Vines with your Machete (you need to wear it) and crawl under them afterwards. Climb up the vine there and simply follow the only path you can go. If you would fail to cross the vine above the river, go through the hole where you arrive and repeat what you did before to try again.

  • Now you can get your Root Cuttings from the dirt patches on the ground. Put the Root Cuttings in your Plant Pot and wait to see whether it manages to survive or not. If it does: use the Clay Pot on the Plant Pot, otherwise just try with another Root Cutting. Once the Root Cutting is sealed in the Airtight Pot you can do whatever you want as the root will survive.
Note: if you have food and anti-poison potions left, you may want to go kill some Ant Soldiers or Spiders. These two seem to drop a lot of other body parts of a dead wizard more than the other creatures. The other monsters also drop these body parts, but not in such a high drop rate.

  • Before you go back to Horacio, get out everything you'll need to kill a level 167 and replace your weapon with any Woodcutting Axe. Also bring Anti-poison Potions or a Super Anti-poison Potion. Proceed to grow your Vine in the Patch. It does not hit very hard but uses a combination of Melee and Magic. Using the Protect from Melee Prayer may help. You can only damage the plant with an Axe, so don't even bother bringing along other weapons!

  • After killing the plant you have to cut off the Vine Stump.

  • Go talk to Horacio to finish the quest.

Congratulations! You have completed the quest!

You have completed the Back to my Roots

The Wizard's Hand
What is the Wizard's Severed Hand for you ask? Take it to Zavistic Rarve at the Wizard's Guild in Yanille. He'll say he wants to find more of the slain person; the monsters in the maze (especially the Ant Soldiers and Jungle Spiders) drop the rest of his body parts. Once you get them all you can get teleported to Brimhaven to read Sandy's Diary, which is good proof in court. Afterwards you can attend the funeral of Clarence (the dead wizard) and you will be granted 10,000 Magic Experience.
