Start Point: Sophanem
Starting the Quest
Before you begin, bank and equip your Ring of Life, Amulet of Glory (charged), Rune Armour and Weapon. In your inventory, have your Light Source, Tinderbox, approximately 1000 Gold Pieces if you choose to travel by Magic Carpet, 1 Super Anti-Poison Potion, approximately two Prayer Potions(4) and the rest of your inventory filled with Food.
If you have a Pharaoh's Sceptre, use it to teleport to the Pyramid in Sophanem by selecting 'Jalsavrah'. You can use the Magic Carpet and travel to Pollnivneach and then to Sophanem. It will cost you 200 Gold Pieces or 100 Gold Pieces if you have done the Ali Morrisane Mini-Quest. So you will need to bring Gold Pieces if you decide to use this method. You can also use the Nardah Fairy Ring (D L Q) and your Dramen staff and walk to Sophanem if you have completed Fairy Tale Part 2.
Once you have reached Sophanem, head to the Temple of Icthlarin where the High Priest is located. The Temple is directly west of the Pyramid from Icthlarin's Little Helper.

- Speak to the High Priest. He will tell you that he had attempted to meet with the people of Sophanem but they did not allow him and his followers to pass. A short cutscene of the meeting will take place. Offer your help to him and ask if there is an underground passage which you could use. He will tell you about a temple located north east of the city, and a man named Jex who looks after it. You must speak to him.

- Head to the north east corner of Sophanem and you should find the temple within the city's walls. You will find Jex by the entrance, west of the Temple. Speak to him.

He will tell you how to go through the Trapdoor. For this part, you will need both a Light Source and a Tinderbox. It is important that you have a Tinderbox with you. If you had forgotten to bring either, head east into the Temple, down the Trapdoor, and speak to the Sophanem Guards. They will sell you a Tinderbox for 50 Gold Pieces and an Unlit Torch for 200 Gold Pieces.
The Deadly Temple
Be prepared to be attacked by Magic and Ranged Arrows. Also be prepared to click on your Emergency Teleport. The things that attack you are powerful but have a slow attack rate. Beside the Ladder which you climbed down from is a Trapdoor. Turn off Auto-Retaliate. Once you are prepared, head down that Trapdoor.

Below, you should find yourself in a Maze with two different levels. The first level you have just climbed down from has Level 93 Scarab Mages and Level 98 Locust Riders lurking around in the corridors. The floor below is a cave which beholds many of them, including Level 106 Locust Riders that use Melee attacks, which all attack you at the same time.

If you are 100+ Combat or higher and you are confident that you will not die, you can actually head to the bottom cave and run through it as a shortcut. Turn on Protection from Magic here. If not, stay on the Maze level and avoid going below. It is also suggested that if you walk on this level to watch out for Traps.
There are several Traps you must look out for:

When you reach the wall with holes in them, search the Odd Markings before you walk across to deactivate the Trap.

To avoid Wall Crushers, come as close to it as you can and walk directly diagonal from it.

If you see holes on the ground, search the Floor before you walk across. The higher Agility you have, the more likely you won't trigger the Trap. If you do trigger the Trap, spikes will come up and damage you.

There are floors that are Traps as well, which cause you to disturb a swarm of Scarabs. You can distinguish them by their circles. Avoid walking on a circle if you see it. If you step on it, a Level 98 Scarab Swarm will appear and attack you. They will also poison you.

Most importantly, stay away from the Golden Scarabs on the wall. Always observe the walls of the Maze carefully. When you see them, walk along the wall farthest away from the Scarabs. If you trigger the Floor Trap, you will fall down, your Hit Points will lower significantly, your Light Source will extinguish, and everything within your perimeter will attack you. If that happens, teleport out or eat as quickly as you can, relight your Light Source, and run to the nearest Ladder.
Head to the most southwestern corner of the Maze. There will be a few Ladders along each corridor. Head to the one north of the most southern Ladder and climb down.
- You should now be in a new cave, just west of the dangerous one. Head along the cave's path until you find Kaleef's body. Search his body for a Parchment. Read that Parchment.

- Then head west of Kaleef's body and you should see Maisa over the crevice. Click on her to speak. Tell her you will help her. She will ask how she can trust you. Tell her you saved Prince Ali from Draynor Village and that Leela helped you. She will tell you that she wants Osman to come directly to her.

Contacting Osman
- Teleport to Al Kharid using your charged Amulet of Glory. Talk to Osman who is located north of the Palace. Talk to him about Sophanem and then tell him your situation. He will tell you that he needs a good reason to go to Sophanem. Tell him that it could drive the wedge between the two cities. Before you go back, bank and replenish your Food, and Prayer Potions(4), and bring Super Anti-Poison. You should also switch to Dragon hide Armour if you have at least level 43 Prayer.
- Head back south to the gates of Sophanem near the Magic Carpet point. You should see Osman there. He will tell you that he cannot get into the city because he is getting too old. Tell him about the secret cave north of the city. He will tell you to wait two hours. A short cutscene will take place here. Now you need to go back to the cave where Maisa is.
The Final Battle: Level 191 Giant Scarab
- Once you reach the cave, a short cutscene will take place here as well. The monster which you must fight is a Giant Scarab, Level 191. It will summon Level 66 Scarab Mages, and Level 66 Locust Riders. The Giant Scarab will also inflict 9 Poison damage on occasion. Drink your Super Anti-Poison when you become poisoned. It uses strong Melee attacks. On occasion, it may use Magic. When it summons minions, kill them first because they are really easy to kill but will inflict high damage onto you.
- After the cutscene, turn on Protection from Melee. Please note that if you use Protection from Melee, the Giant Scarab will only summon one minion at a time, either a Level 66 Scarab Mage or a Level 66 Locust Rider. Run through the cave to where the Giant Scarab attacked Osman and be prepared to battle. At first, it may seem really hard to hit the Scarab, but after it summons the first minion, it should be easier.

- Once you kill the Giant Scarab, speak to Osman. He will tell you that you can pick up the Keris and speak to the High Priest and eventually thank you for rescuing him. Before you go back, you can pick up the Keris from the ground. If you forget to pick up the Keris and you complete the quest, just talk to Osman in Al Kharid and he will tell you that Maisa had picked it up for you.
- Head back to the temple of Icthlarin and speak to the High Priest. He will thank you for your troubles and give you a Combat Lamp.

Combat Lamp
After completing the quest, the High Priest will give you a Combat Lamp which will grant you two wishes. Each wish will reward you with 7,000 Experience in a Combat skill of your choice. You may choose from Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Range, or Magic.
Keris

The Keris is effective against Kalphites and followers of Scabaras, (Scarab Mages and Locust Riders). The dagger can also be poisoned. The Keris randomly releases specials which inflict three times more damage when battling with Kalphites or followers of Scabaras. Some were recorded as over 100 damage on Kalphites. If you lose your Keris, you can get it back from Osman in Al Kharid for 20,000 Gold Pieces.
Bank in Sophanem
Once you have completed the quest, you can access the Bank in the temple where the Sophanem Guards are. This is ideal for training Thieving in the Pyramid of Jalsavrah (Pyramid Plunder Mini-Game).
