Start Point: Talk to Larissa at the Lighthouse north of the Barbarian Outpost

Quest Length: Short

Difficulty: Medium

Requirements: 35 Agility, 13+ Magic will be an advantage, must be able to defeat Level 100+ Monsters.

Items Needed: 2 Planks, 1 Hammer, 60 Nails, Molten Glass, Swamp Tar, Tinderbox, 1 Earth, Air, Fire and Water Rune, an Arrow and a Sword (we recommend a Bronze Arrow and Sword as you do not get them back), and then a Fighting Sword, good Bow and Arrows, and Attack Runes.

The Quest:
  1. Go north of the Barbarian Agility Course and across the Basalt Causeway, this isn't too easy, but not too difficult either. If you fall just keep on trying.

  2. Then go and talk to Larissa, she will tell you her beloved Jossik has gone missing and she can't get into the Lighthouse. She asks you to help, tells you that her Uncle Gunnjorn has a Spare Key, and she needs to return to Fremennik (you must repair the Bridge).

  3. Head to the east and repair the Bridge, then cross over, and repair it from the other side.

  4. Next, go south of Larissa to the Barbarian Agility Course. Obtain the Spare Key from Gunnjorn.

  5. Go back to the Lighthouse and talk to Larissa. Enter the Lighthouse and go Upstairs, search the Bookcase and take all three Books. Read them all, ensure you are still Upstairs.

  6. Use the Molten Glass on the Lighting Mechanism, then use the Swamp Tar on it. Finally use the Tinderbox on it. This has fixed the Lighthouse.

  7. Now you may enter the Basement.

  8. Go down the Iron Ladder and up to the Strange Wall, use one Air, Earth, Fire and Water Rune, one Arrow and a Sword on the Wall. You WILL NOT get them back, hence the Bronze Arrow and Sword. This is what the completed Wall should look like.

  9. Go through the Wall to the right of the Mural, then down the Ladder. Talk to Jossik and a Level 100 Monster called Dagannoth will attack you. He is easy to defeat using whatever method you chose, I used my Dragon Long Sword.

  10. Talk to Jossik again and the Dagannoth Mother will attack you.

  11. She isn't quite as simple and changes Colour. The Colour determines which Attack Method you should use.
    • Red..........Fire Attack Spell
    • Blue.........Water Attack Spell
    • Brown......Earth Attack Spell
    • White.......Air Attack Spell
    • Yellow.....Melee
    • Green.......Range

  12. Once the Monster is dead, talk to Jossik.

    Congratulations! Quest Complete!

Reward: 2 Quest Points, Ranged, Strength, Magic Experience and a Rusty Casket

You have survived the Horror From The Deep!
    2 Quest Points
    4,662 Ranged Experience
    4,662 Magic Experience
    4,662 Strength Experience
Now, proceed Upstairs with your Rusty Casket, show it to Jossik and he will ask you what it says. Choose the God of your liking, then choose your God again.

Jossik will give you an Incomplete Prayer Book, which has a good Prayer Bonus. To complete the Prayer Book you must obtain the four Pages. These can be acquired as a Clue Reward. When the Book is complete you can use it to give a bit of Divine Intervention to your Attacks. You cannot change your Book until you completed the first Book you picked, after this you can buy the other Books for 5,000 Gold Pieces each, but again only one at a time. Should you lose your Book you can get it back complete with the pages you already added in by talking to Jossik again.
For more information about Prayer Books please visit our Prayer Book Guide.

You can also trade with Jossik, he has a good selection of Basic Items and all Alcoholic Beverages in his Store.

After the Quest the Basement where you fought the Dagganoth Mother will be filled with Level 92 and 74 Dagganoths, this area is multi-combat and one of the favorite places for People using a Cannon.

Hints and Tips By: Blackmage172

  1. When fixing the Bridge and Lighthouse, don't just take the things you need for the Bridge, then go all the way back to Seer's and get the things for the Lighthouse. Get everything at once, because you won't need Food or anything just to fix a few Lighthouses. Teleporting to Camelot after this to stock up on Food for the final battle is a good idea, too.

  2. You can jump the Bridge, you know. At the beginning, you only needed to jump the Basalt Bridge once. Jump over the Wooden Bridge that leads to Rellekka from then on to conserve time, unless you plan on visiting the Barbarian Outpost later.

  3. When you're at the Door where you place the Sword, Arrow, and Runes, if you have multiple Air Runes for Teleportation or whatever, the Door only takes one, which can prevent running all the way back to Seer's just to get a few Air Runes. And trust me, if those Dagganoth's start getting the best of you or you want to try a different plan, you're going to wish you had those Teleport Runes.

  4. Another thing at the Dagganoth Door, even if you log-out, the Arrow, Runes, and Sword still stay in it, so if you have to log-out you won't have to get all that junk again. However, it would be wise for Levels 65 and lower to Teleport back to Seer's and stock up on Food before heading into the fray.

  5. The first Dagganoth isn't even a Level 100. I probably could've beaten it without any of my Armor, and I'm only Level 70! Don't waste your Prayer/Food on this thing; trust me - it's not worth it.

  6. The Mother Dagganoth is one stubborn piece of ... err ... Monster. When you're fighting it, be sure to note it's "color scheme" so to speak and be prepared to fight in at least two of its forms, specifically ones that are not back-to-back.

    In order-
    • White (Only damaged by Air Magic)
    • Blue (Only damaged by Water Magic)
    • Brown (Only damaged by Earth Magic)
    • Red (Only damaged by Fire Magic)
    • Green (Only damaged by Ranging)

  7. For my first Dagganoth attempt, I only used Melee, and spent a good 30 minutes killing it and only got to halfway health before I teleported back to Camelot for a new plan. On my second attempt, I used a combination of Melee and Range Attacks, which brought it down in less than 15 minutes.

  8. When the Dagganoth is a color that you can't Attack it, hide behind the Stalagmites. The Dagganoth cannot reach you with its Range or Melee Attacks, and if you position yourself right, Mages and Rangers can hit the Dagganoth while only being hit by it's Range Attack, which is considerably weaker.

  9. Mages- be EXTREMELY cautious when going out into the open! When I fought it in Full Rune with a Granite Shield, it still hit 9's on me, and with my Green Dragonhide the Range Attack hit double 6's at times. Maging is not advised in the Dagganoth Cave, but if you have a very good Mage Level (55+), make sure you're Defence is good too (55+).

  10. Rangers- unless your Armour is Red or Black Dragonhide, wear a Rune Plate or some other type or good Armour to protect your body. Keep the Chaps, Coif (although I didn't use one), Vambraces, Clothes, and Bow on, just replace the body with a Plate. This may sound stupid, but think about it - you still get an excellent Range Attack Bonus, so you'll be fine. I hit 7's on that thing with a Maple Bow, Green Dragonhide and a Rune Plate, so chances are you'll be fine.

  11. Meleers- there's not much for me to say except wear your absolute best Armour, use your best Weapon (NOT a Two-Handed Sword or a Halberd! The Dagganoth changes colours too fast for you to get more than two hits on it!), preferably a Dragon Weapon, and always use the Stalagmite tactic when the Dagganoth is not orange.

  12. When choosing a Prayer Book, always choose the one that you have more pages of in the Bank. You won't get another Prayer Book until that one is completed with all four Pages inside. If you're not sure which one to pick or don't have any Torn Pages, pick Guthix, because it's Pages are the cheapest and the easiest to get.

  13. The ideal inventory for fighting the Dagganoth should always be 5 Air Runes, 1 Law Rune, an extra Ring of Recoil (just in case), and the rest filled with Lobsters or higher.

  14. Outfit Suggestions:
    • Maging Ideal Armour/Stats: Mystic Robes, at least 55 Mage, Glory Amulet, Ring of Recoil, at least 55 Defence
    • Ranger Ideal Armour/Stats: Any Ranger Armour, preferably Blue or higher, at least 45 Range, Ring of Recoil, Glory Amulet, Coif, any Bow that hits over 6's, at least 55 Defence
    • Meleer Ideal Armour/Stats: Your absolute best Armour, at least a Rune Longsword if you don't have anything better (if using a Dagger, make sure you only use a Dragon Dagger! That special becomes really handy later on in the fight!), Glory Amulet, Ring of Recoil, at least 55 Attack, Strength, Defence, and Hitpoints

P.S. When finished, be sure to take a Snap Shot with your Prayer Book, it makes a heck of a souvenir!
