Requirements:
Required Items:
  • 1 Mud Rune
  • Knife
  • Bucket
  • Pestle and Mortar
  • Oak Log
  • Maple Log
  • Hammer
  • Saw
Watchtower and Ardougne teleport Runes or Lunar/Dramen Staff are recommended.

Starting Point: Talk to Brimstail, in his Cave, which is found on the southwestern side of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.

  1. Speak to Brimstail. The location of his Cave is shown on the Map below, circled in red.

  2. Brimstail will tell you to inspect the next Room. Head west in his Cave and inspect the Machine and Crystal Bowl.

  3. Go back and talk to Brimstail. Brimstail will then tell you to go and talk to Hazelmere, who is located on the Island east of Yanille.

  4. Watch the Cutscene, then take the Disk Hazelmere gave you back to Brimstail.

Transportation options ordered slowest to fastest:

    1. Walk there and walk Back.
    2. Teleport to Yanille, walk to Hazelmere, teleport to Ardougne and walk back.
    3. Take a Lunar/Dramen Staff with you and go to the Gnome Hand Glider. Head to Feldip Hills, then proceed to walk southeast to the Teleport Ring. Teleport to Zanaris. Next, teleport again using the combination C-L-S. This takes you to Hazelmere's Island. When you are done, teleport back to Zanaris using the Ring. Then use the combination A-K-S to teleport back to Feldip Hills. Walk northwest to use the Glider.

  5. Talk to Brimstail again. There will be a second Cutscene in which the Machine is sabotaged.

  6. To repair the Machine you found, you will be asked to gather Oak and Maple Logs. These must then be put together with some Magic Glue. To make Magic Glue you must take a Bucket and use a Knife on an Evergreen or a Normal Tree and you will get Sap. Use a Pestle and Mortar on a Mud Rune, to make it into a Ground Mud Rune. Next, use the Ground Mud Rune on the Bucket of Sap.

  7. Go back to the broken Machine with the Oak Log, Maple Log, Bucket of Magic Glue, Hammer, and Saw. Click on the Machine to begin repairing it.

  8. Now that you have repaired the Machine, you will need to unlock it. Talk to Brimstail again, and he will give you two Disks which are a random shape and color. They will be used to unlock the Machine.

  9. To unlock the Machine, you must look at the un-locker. There is a green number. You need to match the green number with a shape that represents the number.

You use Disks to unlock the Machine by using the following color/shape combinations, created by multiplying the number of sides of the shape by the value associated to each color. (For background on where this number came from look at the Sign next to the Machine). Red has a value of 1, and each colour following red down the list has the value of the previous colour +1.

    Disk Colour/Shape Values
      Circle Triangle Square Pentagon
    Red 1 3 4 5
    Orange 2 6 8 10
    Yellow 3 9 12 15
    Green 4 12 16 20
    Blue 5 15 20 25
    Indigo 6 18 24 30
    Violet 7 21 28 35

For the Disk that you have, match the colour to the shape for the given value.

    For Example:

    • An Orange Triangle would have a value of 6.
    • An Indigo Pentagon would have a value of 30.

  10. Insert the needed Disk into the Machine. This will bring you to the next "Level".

  11. For the next "Level" of the Lock, look at the number you need to make and the number of Disks you need to make it with. Find a combination of pieces in your Inventory which add together to create the number you need using the correct number of Disks. For example, if you need 30, and there are 3 spots for Disks, you could find pieces worth two, twenty and eight.

Note: If you run out of Disks or want to get more of them without going through the Exchanger process explained below, speak to Brimstail, and he will give you more as long as you don't already have too many in your Inventory.

  12. If you cannot find the Disks that add up to the needed sum, then find a sum greater than it. For example, 2, 20 and 12 if you wanted to make 30. This combination of Disks would make 34, but you can put one of your Disks into the Exchanger to break it down into smaller pieces, which can then be used for the lock. In the above example, you would put in the Disk with the value of 12, and exchange it for Disks of useful value, such as 4 and 8. The Disk with a value of 4 could be discarded, but the Disk worth 8 could be used for the lock combination.

Note: The Exchanger will change the shapes and colours of your Disks, but the resulting Disks will always have the same total value as the ones you put in.

Well done! You have now repaired the Machine! Uh Oh! It appears there has been a bug in the Gnome Security System...

  13. Talk to Brimstail. You will quickly understand that things were not as they seemed and the Cute Creatures were not so cute.

  14. Report the information you've learned to King Narode. Kill all six Evil Creatures surrounding the Tree Gnome Stronghold. They only have 1 Hitpiont and are very easy to defeat.

    They are located:

  15. When you are done killing all six, go talk to King Narode again to complete the Quest and receive a small Crystal Seed.

Congratulations! Quest Complete!

You have completed the Eyes of Glouphrie Quest.
1 Quest Point
12,000 Magic Experience
2,500 Woodcutting Experience
6,000 Runecrafting Experience
250 Construction Experience

Crystal Saw: If you bring the Crystal Seed to the Singing Bowl back in the Cave where the Machine was, you can turn the Seed into a Crystal Saw. The Saw boosts your Construction Skill by three levels when you make an Item for which a Saw is required! This can be stacked with Tea for an even greater boost!
