Tourist Trap Quest Guide

Start: Speak to Irena at Shantay Pass south of Al Kharid.

Requirements: 20 Smithing and 10 Fletching, must also be able to kill a Level 52 Enemy.

Items Needed:
  • 1 Desert Robe
  • 4 filled Waterskins
  • 5 Bronze Bars
  • 40-50 Feathers
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Hammer
  • 500 Gold Pieces
All of these Items can be bought at the Shantay Pass Shop, which also has a Bank nearby.

**When you walk around in the Desert you will occasionally need drink from a Waterskin, depending on how you're dressed. You will drink more often in Armor and less in your Desert Robe, to re-fill a Waterskin cut a Cactuses using a Knife.
  1. Buy a Shantay Pass and head into the Desert, upon entering it you will see Irena, speak with her to start the Quest.

  2. Make your way south to the Mining Camp Entrance, it will be guarded by several Men including a Captain. Use the "Watch" Option on the Captain to find out he doesn't fight his own battles.

  3. Now speak with him and insult him, he will call his Men to fight you. Once the Guard comes close he pretends to hit you and asks you to go away.

  4. Speak with the Guards and ask them about the Captain, they will tell you they have agreed to not interfere with a 1-on-1 duel with the Captain. After that bet with the Guards in your favor.

  5. Speak with the Captain and tell him that there must be something you can do for him, he will send you to the Camp west of the Mining Camp to kill a Bandit. Make your way to the Nomad Camp and speak with Al Shabim who you'll find in the big Tent. He will send you back to the Captain.

  6. Speak to the Captain again and choose the new Option about the Bandit. He will challenge you, now ask him about fighting his own battles and the fight will begin. After he is dead pick up the Metal Key he drops.

  7. It's time to enter the Mining Camp, but before you do so remove all your Weapons and Armor and make sure you don't wear it anywhere inside, this does not include Desert or Slave Robes) or you will be jailed. Now go through the Gate.

  8. Immediately head into the only Building inside and go up the Ladder, search the Desk and you will receive a Cell Door Key. Make sure you keep this with you, chances are you'll use it at least once.

  9. Head back outside and speak with one of the Slaves. He will tell you that he wants to escape, agree to help him and you will switch Robes. You can get caught on this bit and be jailed, simply use your Key to escape or climb out the Window (you'll end up outside the Camp)

  10. When you have the Slave Robes enter the actual Mine using the large Wooden Doors, make your way to the end of the long Cave to find a guarded Passage.

  11. Speak with the Guard and tell him you want to switch Mining Spots, he will ask you for a Pineapple made by the Bedabin Nomads. Leave the Camp and head back to the Nomads Camp, when leaving you can sometimes be caught as well, in this case climb out the Window and make your way out of the Camp.

  12. When you're at the Nomads Camp speak to Al Shabim, he will tell you that he wants some Blueprints from the Mining Camp. And he will give you a Key to the Chest they are in.

  13. Make your way back into the Mining Camp and head into the Building again and up the Ladder. Search the Bookcases here until you are observing books about boats.

  14. Speak to Captain Siad and tell him you just want to talk, mention his Books and then sailing, you will now receive two Options, pick the one containing the word 'jib'. You should now receive a Message saying he is distracted, so open the Chest and grab the Plans (Blueprints).

  15. Make your way back to the Nomad Camp and show the Plans to Al Shabim, he will want you to make the Weapon. Head to the Tent containing an Anvil and show the Blueprints to the Guard, he will let you in to make the Weapon. Use the Anvil to make the Weapon and show the Experimental Dart to Al Shabim he will give you the Pineapple and six Darts, you will also be prompted with a Message saying you can now smith your own Darts.

  16. Bring the Pineapple back to the Guard and head into the next Area.

  17. In here you will see a Winch with a lot of Barrels around. Search them and pick one up.

  18. Go to the Mining Cart and search it. You will be asked to crawl into it, do so (might take a few tries) and you will end up in another Area.

  19. Walk north where you will find Ana, speak with her about escaping and be sure not to tell her how you got in (or you will be jailed and your Key won't work, you'll have to mine to get out)

  20. Use the Barrel on Ana and make your way back to the Mining Cart, put her in and then ride it yourself, upon arriving search the Barrels around the Cart for Ana.

  21. Go towards the Winch and use the Barrel containing Ana on it, the Guard will offer to aid you, accept it and then pick the statements that will compliment him.

  22. Head back to the Surface and use the Winch there, you will pull Ana and her Barrel to the Surface, search the Barrels around the Winch for Ana.

  23. Use Ana on the Cart and speak with the Guard, joke around with him until you can ask him to drive the Cart for 10 Gold Pieces, he will want 100 Gold Pieces, pay it and you will end up outside, (it is possible to get caught if you make a mistake in the conversation repeat step 17 to 23 again).

  24. Make your way back to Irena thus completing the Quest.

Reward: 4,650 Experience in 2 Skills of your choice: Agility, Thieving, Smithing or Fletching. A Wrought Iron Key (grants access to a Gate on the bottom Level of the Camp into the Mine.) Also the ability to make your own Darts.

** The Wrought Iron Key can be replaced by searching Captain Siad's Desk again.
