Minimum Requirement:
Items Needed:
Start Point: Speak to Effigy near the Tower south of Ardougne, next to the Necromancer's Tower.
|
- South of Ardougne, follow the road that leads from the Zoo to the Tower of Life, which is located southwest of the Necromancer's Tower. You may also use your Dramen Staff and the Fairy Ring Code D J P if you have completed Fairy Tale Part II.

- To the west of the Tower of Life, find Effigy who is wearing purple Robes and has white Hair. Speak to him. You will ask what this interesting Building is there for. He will tell you that it is for he and his fellow Alchemists. However, the Tower has ceased construction because of the Builders' Strike. He suggests to speak to Bonafido, the Head Builder, to sort things out.
- Head north of the Tower to find Bonafido lying on the ground beside a bunch of Crates. Speak to him and you will find out why the Builders are on strike. You will then ask if you can see inside of the Tower. He will tell you that only Builders are allowed inside and you will need a Builders' Outfit to enter.

- There are four pieces of Clothing which you must retrieve:
- Trousers: If you speak to 'Gummy', he will tell you that he lost his Pants by the Shore because of a Storm. Search the Plant between two others, southeast of the Tower of Life.

- Hard Hat: Talk to 'Black-Eye' who will help you with the Helmet. But first, you will need to prove your Construction Knowledge by answering some questions:
Q: How many nails does it take to make a rocking chair?
A: Three
Q: What takes 3 planks, 3 cloth and 3 nails to make, and helps remove light from a room?
A: Torn curtains
Q: I like fish and I want to put some in my garden, but I need a special water feature. What materials would I require?
A: 10 clay pieces
- Shirt: Talk to 'The-Guns' and he will offer his Shirt to you. In return, he would like some Beer, which you automatically give to him, assuming you have it with you.
- Boots: Speak to 'No-Fingers' who will tell you that he has many Boots but won't give you any. Right-click him and select Pickpocket to retrieve some Boots. It is also possible to fail thieving and become stunned by 'No-Fingers'. If this happens, just try again.
- After retrieving all four Items, equip them and talk to Bonafido. He will test your skills:
Q: You've plenty of work to do, but you need a drink fast - what do you go for?
A: Tea
Q: Let's hear you whistle!
A: Whistle for attention
Q: What's a good sign that you need to replace your trousers?
A: Your legs are getting a bit cold
Q: What do you do if you cut your finger?
A: Carry on, it'll fix itself
After answering all four questions correctly, he will tell you that there's a Pressure Machine, a Pipe System and a strange Cage up at the top that needs finishing. The Alchemists couldn't explain what they were for.
- Now head inside of the Tower of Life by clicking on the Tower Door. You will notice that there are open Crates on this Floor. Each Crate contains a specific item:

To repair each Object, you will have to search each Crate for a certain amount of specific items. On occasion, you might not find the Item from the Crate. Just search the Crate again to obtain it. These are the items you need to fix each Machine:
- Pressure Machine: 4 Coloured Balls, 3 Metal Sheets, and 4 Valve Wheels.
- Pipe Machine: 6 Rivets, 4 Pipes and 5 Pipe Rings.
- Cage: 5 Metal Bars and 4 Binding Fluids.
You will not be able to carry all of the items listed above at once. Simply select an Object to repair, one at a time, and collect the list of items for that Object.
- Click on the Stairs to go up. On the next Floor is the Pressure Machine. You will need four Coloured Balls, three Metal Sheets, and four Valve Wheels to fix it. Click on the Machine to build it, but it will still require some calibrating. You will need use the Valves and Levers to get the Balls in the Holes to block the leaks and then increase the pressure to fill the Pipes.

To calibrate it, follow these instructions:
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 1 to the left two times. This should have blocked the leak in Pipe 1.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 1 to the right five times. Pipe 1 should now be completely filled with water.
- Pull the Left Lever so that it's down.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 2 to the left two times so that the leak in Pipe 2 has been blocked.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 2 to the right four times. Pipe 2 should be fixed.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 3 to the right two times.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 3 to the left once so that the leak in Pipe 3 has been blocked.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 3 to the right four times to repair it.
- Pull the Right Lever so that it's down.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 4 to the right three times.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 4 to the left once.
- Turn the Valve Wheel of Pipe 4 to the right three times.

- Now head back downstairs and retrieve six Rivets, four Pipes and five Pipe Rings if you haven't already. Head two Floors up from the Ground Floor to reach the level where the Pipe Machine is located. Click on the Pipe Machine to build it. It will also need to be calibrated. You need to connect the Pipes properly to allow the Liquid to travel further up the Tower. Rearrange your Pipes using the Control Panel they have given you so that the final layout looks like this:

- Lastly, retrieve five Metal Bars and four Binding Fluids and then head to the Top Floor where the Cage is located. Click on the Cage to fix it. You will need to create the correct-sized Bars to fit into the purple-highlighted parts of the Cage. There are four sides of the Cage which you must fix. First, select either a Horizontal or Vertical Bar. Next, use either the + or - Signs to increase or decrease the length of the Bars. The number shown within the Box determines the size of the Bar. Once you've matched the correct size, click on the Place Bar option. Once you have completed one side of the Cage, click on the Arrow Keys to move to the next:
- Side One: Vertical Size 2 Bar, Horizontal Size 3 Bar, and Horizontal Size 2 Bar

- Side Two: Vertical Size 2 Bar, Vertical Size 4 Bar, and Horizontal Size 2 Bar

- Side Three: Horizontal Size 4 Bar, Vertical Size 2 Bar, and Vertical Size 3 Bar

- Side Four: Horizontal Size 2 Bar, Horizontal Size 2 Bar, and Vertical Size 2 Bar

- After repairing and building all three Objects, head back down outside to Effigy and speak with him. Tell him that you have fixed all of the Machinery. They will rejoice and rush up to the top of the Tower.
- Head upstairs to the top of the Tower of Life and a short cut scene will take place. A Homunculus will come to life and it will desire freedom. It will get angry and scare the Alchemists away.
- Go back downstairs and outside to where Effigy and the Alchemists were. Speak to Effigy. He will ask you to confront the Homunculus.
- Go back upstairs to the top of the Tower and speak to the Homunculus. It will ask a series of questions, and you are to choose either Magic-related answers only or Logic-related answers only. Either choices will result in the same outcome:
Q: How can I make fire appear at my fingertips?
A (Logic): Get some logs and a tinderbox.
A (Magic): With the aid of fire runes.
Q: How do dragons breathe fire?
A (Logic): By ignition of gas in their belly as they exhale.
A (Magic): With the help of magical dragonstones!
Q: What do people do, day-in, day-out?
A (Logic): Fletching, Crafting, Smithing.
A (Magic): Runecraft, enchant jewellery, perform alchemy.
Q: What could I do with unwanted bones?
A (Logic): Bury them.
A (Magic): Turn them into bananas or peaches!
Q: What's the best way to travel?
A (Logic): Run, run as fast as you can.
A (Magic): Depends where you are headed, but teleport spells are a safe bet.
Q: I hear people whisper of potions...
A (Logic): People mix together ingredients in vials. The nutrients will help you.
A (Magic): Yes, you can make magic potions to boost your skills.
Q: How are rune stones created?
A (Logic): Take a rune stone to an altar and use a talisman.
A (Magic): By harnessing the power of the gods!
Q: Can people move things with the power of the mind?
A (Logic): Sure. Use your brain to tell someone to move it!
A (Magic): Yep, you can use the Telekinetic Grab spell.
Q: How can I possibly exist?
A (Logic): It's a simple case of combining materials.
A (Magic): Through the power of alchemy.
Q: Explain those flashing sparks that scared the alchemists.
A (Logic): Coincidence - there is a lot of loose metal around.
A (Magic): You have special powers - no surprise seeing you how you were created.
Q: I want to learn more - what should I study?
A (Logic): Try some Mining followed by Smithing.
A (Magic): How about Magic and Runecrafting?
Q: If I can reach out far enough I can grab the sun.
A (Logic): Well the sun is not actually there, it's where it used to be!
A (Magic): Can't see why not, anything is possible.
Q: Am I a creature of magic or a creature of logic?
A (Logic): Everything has a reason, even if you don't know what it is.
A (Magic): Your very existence speaks of mystical forces.
Q: Which do you believe in?
A (Logic): Logic.
A (Magic): Magic.

- After answering enough questions to reach either end of the spectrum, it will tell you go down to Effigy and speak to him. Head back downstairs and outside again to speak to Effigy. The Homunculus will appear and force them to reveal their plans. It will then tell the Alchemists go away and to stop the experiments. You are now to meet the Homunculus downstairs in the Dungeon of the Tower.
- Head back into the Tower of Life. In the southern part of the Tower, look for a Trapdoor. Head down that Trapdoor.
- From the Ladder, head north until you reach the Magic Well of Life and the Homunculus. Speak to it. It will reveal that they used the Essence of Guthix Power to create creatures. It will then reward you for your help.
