Minimum Requirements: Level 35 RuneCrafting, be able to beat

Items: Bowl*, Chaos Talisman/Chaos Tiara, 15 Chaos Runes

* A Bowl can be crafted from Soft Clay or be bought in any General Store for 5 Gold Pieces.

Recommended Items: One Varrock Teleport.

Start Point: Southern Road of Varrock

Follow the path south of Varrock until you see Rat Burgiss at the crossroads of Lumbridge, Al Kharid, and Varrock. (Map) Speak to him and offer to help.
Rat will ask you to retrieve 5 important Pages of his back from Outlaws who stole them from him. He will give you a folder to put the pages in. Go east of Edgeville along the river by the Grand Exchange, past the fairy ring and Lucien's house to find the Outlaw's Camp. (Map) Multiple Level 32 Outlaws are there, kill 5 and pick up all 5 Pages each one drops. Fill up the Folder and return to Rat.
Rat will ask you to do another task for him. He asks for you to deliver a letter to Surok Magis, located in the Library of the Varrock Palace.
Talk to Surok Magis and he will destroy the letter and ask if you want to know a secret, say 'Go on then' and continue with the conversation. He will ask you to bring him a Bowl and an Infused Wand. Surok will give you a Wand, Diary, and tell you to find a Tome in the Library, which can be found in the Bookcase shown below on the other side of the library. Read both the Diary and Tome.
Get a Bowl, Varrock Teleport Runes, 15 Chaos Runes, some food in case of Revenants, and go to the Chaos Altar through the Wilderness, through the Abyss or through the newly discovered shortcut (see bottom of guide).
When at the Chaos Altar, use the Wand on the Chaos Altar, now it is infused with power. Teleport to Varrock and return to Surok with the items.
Surok then tells you to deliver a letter to Rat back at the crossroads between Lumbridge, Al Kharid, and Varrock. Read the letter and a scheme can be seen going on.
When you talk to Rat, he reveals all of his secrets. He will ask you to talk to Zaff, the owner of the Staff shop in Varrock. Zaff is located in the middle of Varrock in his staff shop.
Talk to Zaff about Rat. He will talk to you about the plans of Surok Magis and give you a Beacon Ring along with instructions. Read the instructions and prepare for a small fight against a Level 47.
Go inside the Library to confront Surok Magis. A short cutscene appears and King Roald is mind controlled. Fight King Roald until he is just about dead (you can't kill him) and then operate the Beacon Ring.
King Roald is then restored to his normal self and Surok Magis plans are stopped. Another short cutscene happens where Surok tries to escape, but Zaff blocks the magic in the room and Surok is defeeated..
After the cutscene, go back to Rat Burgiss and talk to him.

The Chaos Altar Shortcut

After reading the Diary and Tome, you can access a shortcut leading to the Chaos Altar which doesn't require going through the Wilderness. The entrance can be found northeast of Varrock.

Speak to Anna Jones and she will give you a Bronze Pickaxe. Excavate the Statue and enter the opening.

You will see a few mages that look like Surok, except they aren't hostile. Go down the tunnel until you see the Portal, have a Chaos Tiara or Talisman on you and enter the Portal to access the Chaos Altar.

The Beacon Ring

You get to keep the Beacon Ring as a reward after you finish the quest. If you try to operate the ring, it says it has no more summon charges to summon Zaff because Zaff removed them. The Beacon Ring has a small Magic Boost. It adds 2 to Magic Attack and 1 to Magic Defence. You can get another Beacon Ring from Zaff again if you lose it.
