Table of Contents I. SKILL INFORMATION (Special Thanks To Tamerlee on this update) Concept: This is a timely process. Pests and Disease can affect your Crops. You can combat Disease and increase your Harvest by using Compost (use Compost on Soil before Planting). Purchase "Plant Cure" (25 Gold Pieces) from Farmers on duty or from Farming Shops to remove Disease from regular Crops. For Trees and Bushes, you need Secateurs to cut off the Diseased parts. If your Plant dies, you need a Spade to remove it. You also use a Spade to Harvest most Crops. Note: Farming is in real time. If you log-off while Crops are still growing, there is a chance that they will become Diseased and die. Patch Locations
Instructions for Vegetables, Hops, Flowers, and Herbs:
Note: Different types of Trees require different Levels to Plant Seedlings in Pots.
After your Tree has fully grown, use an Axe and cut down the Tree until the Stump appears. Then use your Spade on the Stump, but you must do it quickly because it respawns very fast. Once you've dug out the Stump you will have the Roots of the Tree. For Bushes, just use a Spade on the Bush. It will ask you if you want to remove the Bush to Plant something else. While waiting, you can:
Diseased Plants Treat Crops, Herbs and Flowers with Plant Cure before they die. The Crops turn into a pale color and will be labeled "Diseased". Plant Cure Can be purchased from Farming Shops and Gardeners for 25 Gold Pieces. Diseased Trees or Bushes must be pruned with Secateurs. If you move your mouse over your Plants and see that they are Dead, simply use a Spade to clear the Patch, then use Compost or Super Compost and Plant again. Farmers You can buy Tools or Plant Cure from them, or ask them for advice. You can also pay them to look after your Allotment Plants, Bushes, Trees or Fruit Trees for you (this does not apply to Herbs, Flowers, Special Plants nor Spirit Trees). Asking to look after your Crops will cost you a Fee, usually a Lower-Level Crop (they also accept Noted Items). You can also ask them for advice. NOTE – even if a Farmer looks after your Crops you still get all the Experience when it is ready to Harvest.
There are Compost Bins near the Patches south of Falador and north of Ardougne. You Can also buy Compost from Farmers and Farming Shops. If there's something that you cannot turn into Compost, it will turn ‘rotten' instead. To be sure, use the Item on a Gardener.
Any Item that requires Level 50 Farming or above to grow is a candidate for Super Compost. Tree Stumps, higher Level Herbs (above Avantoe), White Berries, or Higher-Level Fruits (such as Pineapple) are suitable. Pineapples are the best alternative since they can be picked on Karamja. See info on how to remove Tree Stumps above. Super Compost makes Crops more resistant to Disease and yields more Crops when Harvested. Flowers Flowers aren't just there to look pretty, they protect your Crops in Allotment Patches from Disease by attracting Bugs to them, although then they will die rather than the Allotment Crop.
Requires Level 23 Farming to make these. Used in Sweet Corn Fields to keep the Birds away.
How to make the Amulet of Nature You must grow a Magic Tree. See instructions on how to grow a Tree above.
Note that Higher-Level Plants need HOURS to grow. Each section lists how many Seeds are required for a Planting, how long it takes to grow, and the possible Crop yield. Each table lists the Farming Level required to Plant, the Experience (XP) earned for Planting, and the Experience for Harvesting (per Item Harvested). Vegetables (Allotment Crops) Requires three Seeds to Plant, takes 35 minutes to grow, and Crop yield varies from 3-15 depending on watering and use of Compost/Super Compost. See Patch Locations above. Vegetables can also be put into the Compost Bin to make Compost if you like (a load of fifteen Tomatoes will make fifteen Rotten Tomatoes which can be thrown at the Dueling Arena in Al Kharid.) Watermelons can be used to make Scarecrows (or sold to other Players for the same purpose). Potatoes, Onions and Cabbages can be put into Sacks of ten (buy at nearby Farming Shop) to save Inventory space. Sweet Corn can be roasted if your Cooking Skill is 21; earns 104 Experience and heals from 2-10. The table also shows what you have to pay the nearby Farmer (Kelgan, Dantaera, Elstan or Lyra) to care for each Allotment in your absence.
Flowers Require one Seed to Plant and take 17.5 minutes to grow. See Patch Locations above. The table also shows the number grown (Crop yield) and which Crops the Flower protects (if applicable).
Herbs Requires one Seed to Plant, takes 70 minutes to grow, and Crop yield varies from 3-8 depending on use of Compost/Super Compost. Per Jagex Herbs do not require watering (which is why it doesn't show when you water it.) See Patch Locations above. When Planting, you don't know what Herb it will be, but as a general rule, the fewer you have, the rarer the Herb. When picked they are Unidentified Herbs, which you can then click to identify per your Herblore Level (or use for Compost; Avantoe and above can be used for Super Compost.)
Hops Requires four Seeds to Plant (except Jute which requires only three), Crop yield varies from 3-12 depending on Watering and use of Compost/Super Compost. See Patch Locations above. Use Barley on a Range to make Barley Malt, an Ingredient required for all brewing except Cider. Use Jute Fibers to weave Sacks on the Loom located in the Farmhouse southeast of Falador (requires 21 Crafting). The table also shows how long it takes to grow and what you have to pay the nearby Farmer (Francis, Rhonen, Selena, or Vasquen) to care for the Crop in your absence.
Bushes Require one Seed to Plant, and Crop yield varies from 1-4 depending on use of Compost/Super Compost. Per Jagex Bushes do not require watering (which is why it doesn't show when you water it.) See Patch Locations above. If a Bush becomes Diseased, simply use Secateurs to prune it. When "Check-Health" appears as an option when you mouse over your Bush, you know it has survived! Click Check health then pick or Harvest the Berries off the Bush. You Can then use a Spade with the Bush to dig it up and Plant a new one. Note that a healthy Bush does NOT need to be dug up, you can leave it there and it will slowly keep producing more Berries to give you Harvesting Experience. Berries may be used for Cooking, making Potions (Herblore) or for Quests. Jangerberries, White Berries and Poison Ivy may also be used to make Super Compost. The table shows how many minutes each takes to grow and what you need to pay the nearby Farmer (Dreven, Rhazien, Taria or Torrell) to care for it in your absence.
Trees Requires one Seed to Plant. Obtain a Plant Pot from a Farming Shop (make one from Clay using the Crafting Skill) and use a Gardening Trowel to fill it with Dirt from any unoccupied Farming Patch. Use your Tree Seed on a Plant Pot with a Gardening Trowel in your Inventory. Use your Watering Can on the Plant Pot with the Seed in it. It will grow into a Sapling and it will be ready to be Planted in a Tree Patch. See Patch Locations above. Water the Sapling once in a while, or pay the nearby Farmer to care for it. If a Tree becomes Diseased, simply use Secateurs to prune it. When "Check-Health" appears as an option when you mouse over your Tree, you know it has survived! Click Check-Health. After your Tree has fully grown, use an Axe and cut down the Tree until the Stump appears. If desired, you can then use a Spade with the Stump to dig it up and Plant a new one (you must do it quickly because it respawns very fast). Once you've dug out the Stump you will have the Roots of the Tree (Oak Roots can be used for brewing; Willow Roots can be used to weave Fruit Baskets on the Loom in the Farmhouse south of Falador; Yew Roots can be used for Herblore; Magic Roots can be used on a Spinning Wheel to make Magic String for Nature Amulet). Note that a healthy Tree does NOT need to be dug up, you can leave it there and it will slowly keep re-growing so you can cut it again. The table shows how many minutes (and Hours) each takes to grow and what you need to pay the nearby Farmer (Alain, Heskel, Fayeth, or Treznor) to care for each Tree in your absence.
Fruit Trees In addition to the above information on Trees (check Patch Locations above), Fruit Trees can be Harvested for six Items. Also, after Harvesting, they can be left in place to produce again. Each Fruit Tree takes 880 Minutes (14.6 Hours) to mature. Note that Curry Leaves, Pineapple, Papaya and Coconuts (from Palm Trees) can be used to make Super Compost. Curry Leaves (requires three) can be used to make ... Curry, of course! The table also shows what you need to pay the nearby Farmer (Bolongo, Ellena, Garth or Gilleth) to care for each Tree in your absence.
Special Plants Special Plants each have only one location where they can be planted (see Patch Locations, above). There are no Farmers on duty who will care for these Items in your absence, so it's all up to you.

Master Farmers Two Master Farmers patrol the Draynor Market Area. ![]() Master Farmer (Spade) ![]() The Master Farmer shown above, with the Spade, walks around the northern part of the Market. He walks around the Pig Pen and sometimes enters it. Take advantage of that and close the Gate so that he does not walk around so much. That will make it easier for you to Pick-Pocket him. Master Farmer (Trowel) ![]() This Master Farmer carries a Trowel in his Hand. He wanders around the center and southern part of the Market. You will notice that Pick-Pocketing is the first Option on the Master Farmer, so you just need to left-click on him. This makes it a lot faster than normal Non-Player Characters where Pick-Pocketing is usually the second Option. Number of Seeds per Steal: Varies Phrase spoken if caught Pick-Pocketing: "Cor blimey mate, what are ye doing in me pockets?" Store: ![]() Time Duration to Restock: Every 60 Seconds Other Notes: It does not restock Tomato Seeds, Sweet Corn Seeds, Strawberry Seeds, Watermelon Seeds, Krandorian Seeds and Wildblood Seeds. Other Methods of Obtaining Seeds
There are 42 different kinds of Seeds that can be stolen from Stalls or Master Farmers. Among them, there are 15 different kinds of Herb Seeds. Here is a list of the Seeds in order of approximate rarity: ![]() Seeds from Nests Special thanks to Tamer lee, Peachy26_99, hawaiigopher, and jabraulter for providing the images! ![]() There are also Fruit Tree Seeds, Tree Seeds, Eggs, Gold Rings, and Sapphire Rings that can only be obtained from Nests. Nests are obtained from Woodcutting Trees, much like a random event. The Seeds are much rarer to get since getting a Nest is random. If you do manage to get a Bird's Nest, it will fall onto the Ground behind you and in the dialogue box you will see, "A Bird's Nest falls out of the Tree." Search the Bird's Nest to obtain the Item. The Item will appear in your Inventory, and you will have an empty Bird's Nest. ![]() Fruit Tree Seeds Grow your own Fruits. ![]() Tree Seeds Plant Trees from Oak to Magic and others. Spirit Seeds are not tradable. ![]() Eggs These also come from Nests. We're not too sure if this has anything to do with Farming (yet). Bird's Eggs are not tradable. ![]() IV. EQUIPMENT Most Farming Equipment can now be purchased at Farming Stores very cheaply (under 10 Gold Pieces), except for Gardening Boots. To get the Boots, kill Farmers. Here is a list of Tools:
Near each Farming Patch you will be able to find Tool Leprechauns, these handy fellows will be able to store your Farming Equipment to save up your precious Bank space. They store the following Items: Seed Dibler, Spade, Gardening Trowel, Watering Can, Rake, Secateurs, empty Buckers, normal Compost and Super Compost. Just like a Bank you can withdraw your Equipment from any Leprechaun anywhere in RuneScape. Techniques Items Suggested: - Ring of Wealth: Increases your chances of getting Farming Equipment slightly. - Weapon: When there were a lot of People competing to kill them, it was wise to use Range because it is fastest. Use Darts or Throwing Knives. - Food: Only needed if you are below Level 15 Combat. Information about Farmers There are Farmers located around many different Farms. Some of them you cannot kill. As for the ones that you can, they will occasionally drop Farming Equipment. Level: 7 Hit Points: 12 Other Drops: Bones, Gold, Fishing Bait, Earth Runes, Fire Runes, Earth Talisman, Bronze Arrows, Air Runes, Chaos Runes, Mind Runes, Herb, various Seeds, or Clue Scroll (Level 1).
