  1. Starting the Journey...

To be a good Smith, you need the following knowledge about Smithing. All Bars are made from Ore, which can be mined or bought. The Ore needs to be used with a Furnace to 'smelt' the Ore into a Bar. Then, you use the Bar on an Anvil with a Hammer in your Inventory. Depending on the type of Metal used, a Menu similar to the following appears...

All you have to do is to click on the Item you want to smith (or right click to smith more than one) and it will smith it/them for you.

  3. Bronze Smithing

To make a Bronze Bar, you will need a Tin and a Copper Ore. One used in the Furnace will give you one Bronze Bar. So, thirteen Copper and thirteen Tin Ore gives you thirteen Bronze Bars.

  4. Iron Smithing

To make an Iron Bar, you will need one Iron Ore and a Smithing Level of 15. One Iron Ore makes one Bar, but here is the catch: it has a 50% chance of being too impure, thus losing the Ore.

  5. Silver Bars (Used for Crafting)

Silver Bars are not for Smithing, they are for the Crafting Skill, but they still require 20 Smithing to smelt. To make one Silver Bar, you need one Silver Ore. Use the Silver Bar with a Furnace to make a Holy/Unholy Symbol or Silver Sickle for the Nature Spirit Quest (You must have the proper Mould in your Inventory).

    TOP

  6. Steel Smithing

To make a Steel Bar, you need two Coal, one Iron Ore and a Smithing Level of at least 30. There is a 100% success rate, and once you’re a higher Level in Smithing, this serves as fast Experience.

  7. Gold Bars (Used for Crafting)

Gold Bars are also mostly for Crafting, but can be used in Smithing, and require a Smithing Level of 40 to make. They are similar to Silver Bars; one Gold Ore gives one Gold Bar. You can make Amulets, Rings and Necklaces by using a Bar with the Furnace as long as the required Mould is in your Inventory.

  8. Mithril Smithing

Here is where it gets a bit tougher, and possibly expensive. You will need a Smithing Level of 50 or over to smelt Mithril Bars. You need one Mithril Ore, and four Coal Ores to make a single Mithril Bar. But selling the Mithril or casting High Level Alchemy on the finished Items gives you some quick Loot.

  9. Adamant Smithing

Adamant Smithing is very profitable. You need a Smithing Level of 70 to smelt Adamantite Bars. One Adamantite Ore and six Coal Ores gives you an Adamantite Bar. This is very profitable, as Adamantite Plates can sell on the Market for 14,000 Gold Pieces each, and give a fair amount of Gold Pieces when you cast High Level Alchemy on them.

  10. Runite Smithing

The best Smiths in RuneScape can make Runite, but it requires a very high Smithing Level of 85 to make the Bars. The Ore is very hard to find and often dangerous to mine. There are three Runite Rocks in the Wilderness: two by the Red Spiders in Level 43 or so Wilderness and one under the Lava Maze. There are also two additional Runite Rocks in the Heroes Guild and one in between Neitiznot and Jatizso. For one Bar, you need one Runite Ore and eight Coal Ores. Runite Bars can be sold for 13,000 Gold Pieces each, which is very profitable.

  13. Great Places to Smelt/Smith

Some great places to smelt Ore into Bars are the Furnaces by the Falador east Bank, and Shilo Village. Shilo Village is a good place, because it is only four steps away from the Bank. To use their Furnace though, you will have to pay twenty Gold Pieces each time you enter the Building with the Furnace, which isn’t too bad. Also, Al-Kharid has a Furnace five Seconds away from the Bank, and it is Free-To-Play and free of charge. The best though would be the Furnace is Port Phasmatys, but you first must complete the Ghosts Ahoy Quest

The best place to smith the Bars is basically Seers’ Village. The Anvil is in the Building just west of the Bank, a short walk. For Free-To-Play, I would suggest Varrock, which is also a five second walk. If you make Platebodies over in Varrock, you can just head east and sell the Armour at Horvic's Armour Shop. Also, in Yanille, there is a great place to smith, but the Anvil is behind a locked Door that requires a certain Thieving Level to open.

  14. Making Money from Smithing

After you have made Items with your Bars, you can always find ways to make Money off of them. The fastest way is to cast High Level Alchemy Spells on them, as no one really buys Iron-Mithril Items anymore. Steel is the best way for lots of Money, as each Plate High Alch’s for 1,200 Gold Pieces. You can, of course, cast High Level Alchemy on any Weapon/Armour for a lot of cash. Once you can make Adamantite or Runite, the money really kicks in. Adamantite Plates can sell for around 14,000 Gold Pieces each, and most Runite Items sell for 10,000 to 85,000 Gold Pieces (Dagger is 10,000 and Platebody is around 65,000). Basically, use your Skills to an advantage. Cast High Level Alchemy on them, sell them on the Market, merchant them, do whatever you can to make Cash. Still the fastest way is casting High Level Alchemy on them with Nature Runes, and I do NOT suggest Low Level Alchemy. You also gain a lot of Magic Experience by using this Spell repeatedly.

  15. Dwarven Stout

The Dwarven Stout is a Drink that can be bought in the Falador Pub for three Gold Pieces each. It can also be found in the Underground Shortcut under Wolf Mountain, on the Tables. This Drink temporarily increases your Mining and Smithing Levels by one, which is handy if you want to make a specific Item that you are one Level away from.

    TOP

  16. Blast Furnace

The Blast Furnace is an excellent way, if you have a party, to smelt your Bars more effectively. It reduces the amount of Coal needed for each Bar by 50%.
