There are many special ways to get your message across in RuneScape chat. These special effects can help make your message easier to see in a busy area, which is especially beneficial for Merchanting.

Colours

The most basic of special effects that you may add to your message is a color. The color must be written before the message, followed by a colon. The message written after that will then be the specified color.

Prefix	Effect
Red:	Red Text
Green:	Green Text
Cyan:	Bright Blue Text
Purple:	Purple Text
White:	White Text

Special Effects

In addition to the colors, there are many special effects that may be used. Similarly to the color scheme, you must write the special effect code, followed by a colon before writing your message.

Prefix	Effect
Flash1:	Text cycles red to yellow quickly.
Flash2:	Text cycles blue to cyan quickly.
Flash3:	Text cycles green to light green quickly.
Glow1:	Text fades red to green to blue.
Glow2:	Text fades red to purple to blue.
Glow3:	Text fades white to green to blue.
Scroll:	Text scrolls right to left.
Shake:	Text shakes up and down.
Slide:	Text slides from top to bottom.
Wave:	Text waves up and down.
Wave2:	Text waves slowly from left to right

Combinations of Effect Codes

If you wish to do so, you may also mix the color effects and the special effects. Some special effects may additionally be used with other special effects, but only one color code may be used at a time. If a color is used in the combination, it must always be written first.
