Fletching For Profit Guide

Note: Fletching is dependant on your Woodcutting Skill. Before starting on this strategy you need to already have a fairly high Skill Level. If you choose to Buy all the Logs your Skill Level won’t have any effect.

Table of Contents

Levels 1-5           Levels 55-70
Levels 5-35           Levels 70-85
Levels 35-55           Levels 85 & Up

Levels 1-5
Before you start making Bows, it is best to make some Arrows, but that shouldn’t take too long.

Buy the Arrowheads from different Ranging-Related Stores, like the ones in the Tree Gnome Stronghold, Catherby and King Lathas’ Training Ground. If you want to save Money you can always Mine some Copper and Tin, smelt them into Bronze Bars and smith the Bars into Bronze Arrowheads.

The Feathers can be bought from Fishing Shops or Players. The Fishing Shop in Port Sarim is a good place to buy them though it’s often crowded. The most cost effective way is to slay some innocent Chickens for the Feathers.

The final Ingredient are Arrow Shafts. You can easily get the necessary regular Logs from the dense Forest east of Draynor Village. Cut the Logs into Shafts with a Knife and you’re ready to go.

First, use your Feathers with the Arrow Shafts to get Headless Arrows. Use them with your Arrowheads and repeat the process as many times as needed. Soon you will attain Level 5 Fletching and have Arrows to train with in your Ranged Skill. Now it’s time to make your first Bows, start with regular Shortbows.

Levels 5-35

Note: For the next several Levels follow the same formula.

You need to decide whether you want to make Bows or Arrows to begin fletching training. If you can buy all the Materials for making Arrows, I suggest that you do so just make them. This allows you to stay in the Bank and avoid investing such a huge amount of time and still accumulate Fletching Experience quickly. If you decide to make Arrows by collecting all the Materials yourself, that will take a larger amount of time.

If you don’t want to spend Money on Skills stay in Draynor Village and make regular Shortbows until you reach Level 10 and then Longbows after that. Once you get to Level 20 move to Seers' Village and use the Oak Trees there for semi-fast Fletching Experience. Make Oak Shortbows to get to Level 25 and then Oak Longbows. Continue until you reach Level 35 Fletching.

You can also use this method if you choose to buy the Materials. Buy the Logs from other Players and fletch them into Bows. A word of advice: DO NOT String your Bows at this stage! It seems like a good idea to acquire Experience in several Skills simultaneously, but remember that Bowstrings cost 100-110 Gold Pieces each! It’s much cheaper to buy more Logs, fletch them and focus on one Skill’s Experience for now. You will gain Levels in a shorter period of time.

Levels 35-55

People who don’t like this Skill usually stop training at this point. Keep going!!! As soon is you meet the minimum requirements start cutting Oaks and then Willows. It will seem like it’s taking forever. Persevere!!! Gain 5 more Levels to Level 40 Fletching and Make Willow Longbows. Now, even if you don’t like to spend Money, this is the point where you should start doing so. You’ve become addicted to Woodcutting?! Alternatively, continue chopping away storing your Logs in the nearest Bank. You will acquire more Logs and ultimatly more Experience by not concentrating on the highest Level Tree you can cut. Rather, cut the next lower Level Tree because they are easier for you to cut so you will get more. Once you gain a few more Levels start cutting the highest Level Tree that you can and you will find that they are much easier to cut and soon you'll be collecting tons of those. Continue to repeat this process as you gain more and more Levels.

For those who decide to part with some of their Gold start by buying tons of Willow Logs, enough to get you to Level 55. Next, set up camp, in a Bank of your choice, plan on a day or so, making as many Willow Longbows as you can. By now you will be an ‘expert’ at fletching and it won’t take long to get to Level 55.

Levels 55-70

Note: The prices of the Ingredients are keen on changing so they might not be exactly the same as they were when this Guide was written.

Once you achieve the Skills to Make Maple Longbows you have two choices. Three, if you still want to make those Arrows, though I don’t suggest that.

A) Keep buying those Willow Logs, thousands and thousands of them. Fletch them all into Longbows but do not String them (the Bowstrings still cost much more than the Logs). I used about 12,000 Willow Logs to get to Level 70 Fletching, so it might take some time. Don’t worry about the spent Money. When you get to Level 70 Fletching the Money will start rolling in.

B) Buy the Following Supplies:

  • Maple Log (100 Gold Pieces)

  • Bowstring (100 Gold Pieces)

  • Nature Rune (300 Gold Pieces)

Also Buy a Staff of Fire if you don’t already have one. Unless you want to use a lot of Fire Runes.

Fletch the Logs into Maple Longbows, string them and then use the High Alchemy Spell changing them into a whole 384 Gold Pieces each. When you take that off from the 500 Gold Pieces, you spent to purchase the supplies, you lose 116 Gold Pieces per Bow but obtained some very fast and cheap Magic Experience too. You can get the Logs and Bowstrings relatively fast by yourself tucking away some good Woodcutting and Crafting Experience at the same time. You put more Gold in your pocket (profit) by using this method.

Even though method ‘B’ can sound good, it will get a lot better when you get to Level 70 Fletching so I suggest you just go with the fast way and buy those Willow Logs.

    Levels 70-85 - Making Money

Reminder: The Prices of the Ingredients are keen on changing so they might not be exactly the same as they were when this Guide was written.

Once you get to Yew Longbows the cash really starts rolling in. Buy or cut about 15,000 Yew Logs and the same amount of Bowstrings and Nature Runes. If you do decide to cut the Yews, make the Bowstring and craft the Nature Runes yourself, you will get a higher profit, though that will take “a little” longer.

Yew Log (300 Gold Pieces) + Bowstring (100 Gold Pieces) + Nature rune (300 Gold Pieces) = 700 Gold Pieces

High Alchemy on a Yew Longbow = 768 Gold Pieces

    768 Gold Pieces – 700 Gold Pieces = 68 Gold Pieces (profit)

So even if you Buy all the Materials you earn 68 Gold Pieces per Bow! From those 15,000 Bows it would bring in a tidy total of 1,020,000 Gold Pieces! Think about it!!! You get paid over a million for getting free Fletching and Magic Experience! Now do you understand why I said Fletching gets good after you have the right Levels?

Just keep on making those Bows and High Alcheming them. Don’t stop here! When you get to Level 80 Make Magic Shortbows; it gives the same Money when you High Alchemy it but the Logs are a lot more Experience. Feel free to celebrate the Level by crafting a few Magic Bows but then continue making Yew Longbows until you get to Level 85 Fletching. Now you can make every Bow in the game!

Levels 85 & Up - Making More Money

Reminder: The Prices of the Ingredients are keen on changing so they might not be exactly the same as they were when this Guide was written.

Now you have two paths to follow: First, is to make Magic Shortbows and Longbows selling them to People for 5,000-10,000 Gold Pieces. You will get more Money for each Bow but finding enough Buyers won’t be easy. Therefore, I suggest you take this path:

    Buy the Following Supplies:

  • Magic Log (1,000 Gold Pieces)

  • Bowstring (100 Gold Pieces)

  • Nature Rune (300 Gold Pieces)

Like in the previous example fletch the Log into a Longbow, string it and High Alchemy it. This time you will get 1,536 Gold Pieces each. The Supplies cost 1,400 Gold Pieces so you earn 136 Gold Pieces, twice as much per Bow as you did before. From now on, the Experience doesn’t really matter anymore for you can already make every Bow in the game. But, this is still a great way of quickly stuffing your Pockets from a reliable bottomless resource, (GOLD MINE)!
