Green Dragon Slaying Guide

By: Black Light1

Edited By: ShadowDragon, Tweedy, Frogger and King Zonk

Coded By: Frogger and King Zonk

General Information:

Monster Combat Level: 79

Special Attack(s): Fire Breath

Other Threat(s): Player Killers (PKers)

Before you can even think about slaying your first Green Dragon you need to prepare yourself; not only for Green Dragons but also for any Player Killers you may encounter. The only Player Killers that should really concern you are Mages, as they are the most dangerous with Spells that can bind you in one spot (Bind, Entangle, Snare), as well as the all-powerful Tele-Block which prevents you from using Magic to escape.

The Wilderness Areas with Green Dragons are extremely popular for many Player Killers, so you will encounter Player Killers very often. You can write down the level and range Players need to be in order to be able to attack you in the Green Dragon sections of the Wilderness, but usually most Players will be able to kill you, so consider any Player is a possible threat.

As for your Equipment, you must decide how to best combine the necessary Magic defense to resist Mages yet still be able withstand the attacks of the Green Dragons. If you use Full Rune, you will be Player Killed by Mages every single time. If you wear Full Black Dragonhide Armor, it may not provide the necessary defense to stand up to the Melee attacks of the Green Dragons for long. Depending on your Combat Level, you have to decide what combination of Armor is right for you.

Best Possible Armor (most resistant to Mages while still good Melee Defense):

Black Dragonhide Body, Black Dragonhide Chaps, Black Dragonhide Vambraces, Legends Cape, Warrior/Berserker Helm, Ring of Life, Climbing Boots, Abyssal Whip/Dragon Scimitar, Anti-Fire Shield, Amulet of Power/Glory (charged)

Best Melee Defense (Makes you vulnerable to Mages however)

Rune Platemail Body, Rune Platemail Legs, Family Crest Gauntlets, Legends Cape, Rune Large Helmet, Ring of Life, Climbing Boots, Abyssal Whip/Dragon Scimitar, Anti-Fire Shield, Amulet of Power/Glory (charged)

Of course, you can choose any combination of the above, and swap any form of Dragonhide Armor (Green, Blue, Red) for the Black Dragonhide Armor if you do not have a high enough Ranged Level. You can choose to wear fewer Items if you are afraid of losing your valuable Items if you do die.
  • Don't wear an Amulet of Glory if you are afraid of losing Money.
  • Don’t use an Abyssal Whip if you are afraid of losing Money.
  • Rings of Life will save you, even up to Level 30 Wilderness.
You will almost certainly have to face the following Enemies a number of times:

Mages

Green Dragons

Here is a Map to show all of the Green Dragon spots available. They are numbered so I can list information about their benefits and drawbacks.

  1.) Good:
  • This is the shallowest Wilderness Green Dragon spot. You are always able to Teleport away from this spot.
  • Shortest distance from a Bank, excellent for quick drop-offs.
  • It's the lowest Level Wilderness (around 15-17) so fewer Players can attack you.
  • You are able to range from the outside rim of the Pit.
        Bad:
  • The spot is in a downward sloping Pit, with you at the bottom. You cannot see out of the Pit, which can leave you constantly on edge as whenever you see a white dot on the Mini-Map you cannot tell if it is a Level 3 Player or a Level 126 Player with an eye for an easy Player Kill.
  • Only three Dragons, and there are many People competing for them.
  • Very popular Player Killing spot, so expect lots of Player Killers.
  2.) Good:
  • This spot is located a relatively short distance into the Wilderness; about Level 22-25 Wilderness. It is a quick run to the Level 20 Wilderness Teleport spot, or you can simply use your Amulet of Glory to teleport out.
  • Medium distance to a Bank.
  • You are able to range the Green Dragons. The most common spot is on the south side by the Graveyard of Shadows Fence or on the east side behind the Clump of Trees.
  • Visibility is good, as the Landscape slopes downward from north to south, and you can easily spot approaching Player Killers.
  • There is a good amount of Green Dragons (6 to 9).
        Bad:
  • Medium Level Wilderness for Green Dragons so be on alert for Player Killers.
It is the second most popular Green Dragon Player killing spot and it is open to attack from all sides.
You are not able to immediately use Teleports as you have to run down to Level 20 Wilderness or you must use an Amulet of Glory teleport.
  3.) Good:
  • This location is still in the shallow Wilderness, you are able to Teleport from the southern side of it (or just use an Amulet of Glory).
  • Excellent visibility, as you are on a hill looking downward on all sides.
  • Not such a popular Player Killing spot.
  • Literally tons of Green Dragons, and there are fewer People competing for them.
        Bad:
  • Not able to Range against the Green Dragons
  • If there are People there, you may be forced past Level 20 Wilderness and into an area where you can’t immediately use Magic Teleports.
  • A little bit farther from a Bank
  • There are a few Multi-Combat spots near this Green Dragon location so be careful which way you run.
  4.) Good:
  • Not as many Players, as it is rarely used for Green Dragons at all. There is therefore less competition for Dragons and good visibility.
        Bad:
  • Not that many Dragons (this negative is balanced by the fact that there are rarely any People)
    Extremely far from a Bank.
  • Very hard to Teleport away from
  • High Level Wilderness, so lots of People are able to attack you
Food:

Food depends completely on what your Combat Level is. If you are a Combat Level 126 you would not need that much Food, or could use very low healing Food. If you are weaker, bring good Food and lots of it.

Lobsters are an excellent choice of Food for Green Dragons. Lobsters heal a lot of Hitpoints in one bite (12). They are also easy to obtain and are sold by many People. Some People use Cakes, but this isn’t preferable as they take three bites to eat and only heal four Hitpoints each bite. If you kill Green Dragons over a long period of time, you will find you need to bring less Food or can switch to different Armor for better protection from other Players (like substituting Rune Platemail Legs for black Dragonhide Legs).

Tips and Suggestions:
  • Bring an Anti-Fire Shield (or you will die very quickly).
  • Have some Magic resistant Armor to help you fend off those pesky Mages.
  • Bring enough Food, but not so much that you are constantly dropping a lot of it to make space for Loot.
  • Use Potions before you leave the Bank. This is extremely helpful, allowing you to live longer, kill faster, and run longer. A good technique is using a Dragon Battleaxe Special Attack, then a Restore Potion and a Super Attack Potion before entering the Wilderness.
  • Bring a Ring of Life, unless you are willing to risk your Items and want a better chance of rare Item drops by equipping a Ring of Wealth.
  • Don't wear Items you are afraid of losing and don’t need. Basically, don't wear an Amulet of Glory in Level 15 Wilderness, as you won't need to use it to teleport out.
  • Bring Teleport Runes if you are able to teleport from your area of the Wilderness.
Amulet of Glory Trick:
You can use this trick to teleport from up to Level 30 Wilderness while still fighting a Green Dragon, therefore allowing you to avoid Player Killers as they can never attack you, unless they catch you while you are not in combat.
  • If you see a Player Killer run up, instead of fleeing and having him cast Tele-Block and Entangle on you, you can simply continue fighting the Green Dragon and ready yourself to teleport away. You can give yourself more time to do so by removing your Weapon so you don't kill the Dragon too early. As soon as you have killed the Green Dragon right click the Amulet of Glory and prepare yourself to rub it as soon as you are about to be attacked. Rub the Amulet just as you are attacked and you have plenty of time to select a destination to teleport to. I'm sure you won't care which place you pick and will just be glad to have avoided the Player Killer so easily and painlessly.

So what are doing lurking around now? Get yourself out into the Wilderness and slay some Green Dragons! And, watch out for the Player Killers!
