Key Ring Q &A

What is a Key Ring?

In short, a Key Ring is a handy Tool which lets you compactly store most Keys from all across RuneScape.

Where do I get one?

You can get one by completing the One Small Favour Quest.

How can I check which Keys I have added so far?

Easy, just left click the Key Ring, and a List will appear. You can cycle through the List using the two Arrows, and there are even handy little descriptions of the Keys right there, if you're too lazy to check the uses here.

Hey, that's a Member's only Quest, is the Key Ring only for Pay-to-Play?

Yup, Members only, sorry Free-to-Play People.

Isn't it's real name a "Steel Key Ring?"

Yeah, but I'm lazy.

Is there a limit to the number of Keys that can be added?

Yes and no.

Yes, in the fact that only certain Keys can be added, furthermore you can't have duplicates.
No, in that you can add as many of the Keys that fit on the Key Ring as you wish.

Why would I want one?

There's several reasons, including:

  • You'll save lots of Bank space because all of your Keys will take up only one Space.

  • It really helps in organization. No more scrolling up and down forever trying to find that darn Dusty Key when you're in a hurry.

  • You don't need to toss those Keys that you rarely use to make Room in your Bank account.

If I have a certain Key to open a certain Door on my Key Ring, can I just use the Key Ring on the Door?

Yup, just right click the Key Ring, hit "Use Steel Key Ring" and use it with the Door.

I want to go fight Black Dragons, but I don't to risk my oh-so-precious Key Ring. Can I just remove the Dusty Key and ensure the safety of all the other Keys and the Key Ring?

Of course! Just click the "Check Keys; Steel Key Ring" Option on the Key Ring.
Select the desired Key, and hit the middle Button that says "Remove this Key".

The Keys You Can Add

So far, I've found nine Keys (with some help) that can be added to the Ring, although I'm sure that there are more. Please post if you know of any others.

  1. The The Brass Key - This Key let's you go straight to the end of the Free-to-Play section of the Edgeville Dungeon, near the Giants, Hobgoblins, and Zombies.
The Key can be picked up in the Room full of the previously mentioned Zombies.

  2. The Shiny Key - This Key allows easy re-entry to the Temple of Ikov (the Dungeon for the Quest bearing the same name) via the Shed in McGrubor's Woods, West of Seer's Village. This is a great spot to fight Lesser Demons and assorted Skeletons, for it is right next to a Bank.
The Key is found with the aforementioned Lesser Demons.

  3. The Metal Key - This Key is required to enter the Forced Labor Camp in the "Tourist Trap Quest".
You can get this Key by taunting the Mercenary Captain outside the Gate into attacking you. After you kill him the Key will appear in your Inventory.

  4. The Wrought Iron Key - This Key lets you enter the Mining Area opened up by completion of the "Tourist Trap Quest".
You receive this as part of the reward for beating the Quest.

  5. The Dusty Key - This Key is used to enter the deeper parts of the Taverley Dungeon.

It is obtained by killing the Jailer in the Black Knight's Encampment, then giving it to the Explorer in the Jail.

  6. The Battered Key - This is the Key which lets you enter the Quest Area for the "Elemental Workshop Quest".
You get this Key by using a Knife with the Battered Book, which initiates the Quest.

  7. Oziach gives you this Key during the Quest, but after you beat it, the only ways to get another is to buy it from another Player or from the Legends' Guild Shop.

  8. The Weapon Room Key (called "a Key" in the game) - It gives access to the Phoenix Gang's Weapons’ Storeroom along with the spawn point for Phoenix Crossbows.
During the Shield of Arrav Quest, Striven will give this to Phoenix Members who, in turn, give it to their Black Arm Gang friends.

  9. The Crystal Mine Key - This Key is a Skeleton Key for the Doors in the Mine for the Haunted Mine Quest and allows access to the Salve Crystals as well as Mineral Veins of various Ores.
You get this Key after beating the Lead Ghost that haunts the Mine.

The Keys You Can't Add

I recall attempting to add these Keys, but being told that the Key Ring doesn't accept these Items. Please correct me if I'm mistaken and I'll fix it.

  • The Miscellaneous Key - Used in Hero's Quest The Black Arm Gang Member gives it to the Phoenix Gang Member to kill Grip.

  • The Toban Key - Used for recovering the lost Gold Bar in the Watchtower Quest.
Og will give it to you while doing the Quest. (You might not get a Toban Key anymore in RS2).

  • The Lighthouse Key - Used to unlock the Door to the Lighthouse in the Horror from the Deep Quest.
Gunnjorn will give it to you after you talk to Larissa.

  • The Cell Door Key - A Key used by Prison Guards

  • Glough's Key - The Key to Glough's Chest

  • Jail Key - Key to a Cell

  • Muddy Key

  • The Maze Key - Key to Melzar's Maze, for the Dragon Slayer Quest.
  • Bone Key - Key dropped by Necrovarus

  • Keys - Keys to the Mayor's House

  • A Small Key - Quite a small Key

  • Key - Opens things

  • The Crystal Key - The Crystal Key opens a Chest in Taverley, which always contains an Uncut Dragonstone, and occasionally some other Loot.

The Crystal Key is made by piecing a Teeth Half Key and a Loop Half Key together. Both Half Keys are rare drops from Monsters, and any Monster that can drop Gems also has a chance of dropping a Half Key and Left Half Shield

Possible Keys

  • The Keys for Demon Slayer - Given to you by assorted People to open Sir Pryson's Chest and get the Silverlight Sword.

  • The Keys to the Shades' Tombs - In the Shade Dungeons unlocked by doing the Shades of Mort'ton Quest.

  • Muddy Keys - They unlock the Chest in the middle of the Lava Maze in the Wilderness for assorted Treasure, Dropped by Chaos Dwarves.
